My friend goes into a almost catatonic state when sad?!

Question: My friend goes into a catatonic state when sad?
She just sits there absoulutely quiet, she doesn't even move, and stares at one spot. She just breathes quietly and blinks every once in a while. Why is she like this? Does this have anything to do with when babies are neglected and they just sit and stare the whole time? She is ussualy very talkative.

thanks

MAYBE SHE JUST SHUTS DOWN WHEN SHE IS SAD . OR MAYBE SHE IS THINKING OF A WAY TO BE HAPPY . YOU FRIEND MAY BE SUFFERING INSIDE TO THE POINT SHE MAY NEED HELP . EVEN IF SHE WANTS TO BE LEFT ALONE . BUT IF YOU PUSH HER AND SHE DOESNT WANT HELP SHE COULD BREAK . TRY PRAYING FOR HER ALOT! AND YOU SHOULD TALK TO HER ABOUT IT WHEN SHE IS NOT SAD OR ANGRY .

are u sure this actually isnt you or your friend
if it is your friend tell her parents to have her checked out

It might have something to do with having been deprived of stimulus or care as a baby, but I think this is probably more likely to be related to depression. Has your friend been formally diagnosed with anything by a doctor? If not, urge her to get help.
