I have a severe sleeping problem... What do I do??!

Question: It's not that I have problems getting to sleep, it's that I just never want to go to sleep. Since last Summer, I've gotten an addiction to staying up. I'm always tired during the day, but I can never push myself to get to sleep. What do I do? (And also, don't be a jerk when you answer please? Thanks)

I am the same way. Ive got a million things I want to do but never have enough time. Even when I get up early, I stay up until I'm almost falling over, really, I gotta remind myself that I was doing something! I sleep late because I stay up too long. It is a vicious cycle. I have 2 kids so that adds alot to it too. I am very jumping outta my skin at times and could talk for ever alot. I get less energy too. Id love to sit and watch TV all day but that's not an option for several reasons without the kids which makes it impossible. This is what I do. I stay up too late and tell myself the whole time to go to bed so you can get up earlier and have more daylight to do more things and feel better over and over and over. Of course I excuses, but the kids will get up even if I don't and they are too little for that. Next I take hydroxyzine, it helps me sleep and my allergies, and some of the nervies I get. It is a prescription, very similar to benedryll. So take some benedryll, and go lay down! You might relax to sleep!

I think you should maybe go to a sleep centre. Maybe even go to a counsellor and they may be able to rule out the problem as to why this is happening. Just search around a bit. Also get together with a family or friend and sit down with them. Tell them what is happening and write down the reasons you think this is happening. Find a way to try and make yourself believe you need sleep. Good luck!!

Try to force yourself to get up REALLY EARLY for 2-3 days in a row. Believe me, you will have no choice but going to bed early at night.

In addition:

1. Drink Orange Blossom (very hot) or Valeriane herbal tea. It helps relax before you go to bed.

2. Take a hot bath. It knocks me right out.

3. Listen to relaxing music, or read. I cannot get passed 2 pages.

4. Get into meditation and yoga classes. You will learn A LOT of relaxation techniques. Or you can get a book on it.

I have the same problem sometimes.
Actually a lot!
I think your body clock needs reset!
I'll be praying for you!

The only good answer is to talk to your family doctor. He or she will be able to best advise you. Don't seek treatments from the internet.

Has anything else changed in your life around the same time? Do you feel hyper? You don't say how old you are or what you do during the day; school? work?

You say that you don't have problems getting to sleep, just getting to the point of going to sleep. Even as a young child I never wanted to go to sleep in fear that I might miss something.

You may want to set up some guidelines for yourself. An example would be: After midnight, I will not be on the computer (my weakness :-) ) I will get into my night clothes and go to bed. I will try relaxation techniques ( deep breathing, lavender spray on the pillow aid in sleep.

Being tired and sleep deprived can be very dangerous. More drivers are killed in accidents due to lack of sleep than drunk driving. Sleep is important to the body as it is the time when muscles relax, the brain recharges, and other important processes occur in the body that keep us healthy.

If you are still unable to make yourself go to sleep, you may want to see your doctor. There may be physical or other medical reasons that are behind this. Sometimes a chemical imbalance in the brain can be the cause or a hormone imbalance, or any number of medical reasons that are causing this.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. You may want to try my suggestions and see if they work.

Take care!
