According to the most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV-TR), there are three types of ADHD.

1. Predominantly Hyperactive Type
2. Predominantly Inattentive Type
3. Combined Type

ADD was the "old term" and is exactly the same as ADHD.

They are just "names" for the disorder. Some people believe that ADD simply means they are not "hyperactive," but that is not true. ADD and ADHD are exactly the same and someone with ADHD does not always have to be hyperactive (as outlined above).

And while there are others who speak about 6 different types of ADD / ADHD - medical professionals currently use these 3 for diagnostic purposes.

Hope this helps.

Yeah...ADHD is just ADHD. ADD is similar and often confused for it.
It isn't epilepsy. Sometimes drugs used to treat epilepsy, like Lamictal, are used to treat ADHD, though.
Its symptoms sometimes appear to be similar to absence seizures.
