How do you relate to people when your going through a very hard time?!

Question: That's a hard one, sometimes you can't. There are times when we all need ''Me Time'', time to deal with our own thoughts, and problems.
I live in a supported housing project, and suffer from Severe Depression, the staff and most of the other residents understand that I need ''Me Time'', and leave me alone, I turn the phone off and leave the curtains closed.
I suggest you speak to you friends/associates and explain that you're going through a bad patch, which you don't think they can help you with, and ask them to understand that there are times that you need to be alone, because any disturbances at those times may lead to confrontations that you'd all regret later.

By phone only

I like talking to people who are going through the same thing as me. They know what you're going through and you can be very understanding of each other.

I look at the difficult times they've been through to see how they got through them.

I look at all the great things going on in their lives, and see that I've got some pretty decent things going on in mine as well.

It can be really easy to get upset, isolating, moody etc when you're not feeling good and are in social situations but hopefully most people in your life only want the best for you, and you can let them in to make whatever problems your having a bit easier.

I have gone through some very hard times recently but due to the fact that I have not won the lottery lately I had to go to work and carry on as best I could.

I work in a retirement home with seniors and talking to them , hearing their problems, seeing how their lives are not really their own anymore either due to health reasons or just due to the fact they now live in a home with 70 other people in one small room paying thousands of dollars a month. Some have children that ignore them, some never had children. Most have lost their spouses, their homes, their cars, their independance in essence.

My problems seem miniscule in comparison. I have a loving family, my own home, come and go as I please.

So in relating with others, sometimes you realize that things are not so bad and could certainly be worse and by helping others with their problems your own seem to fade for a while.

Helping and being there for others has helped me, maybe it would for you too.

I have also adopted a philosophy that stressing over most anything will do you no good and feel ":Let it go"..lol...I think I may have that tattooed somewhere.

So take care and know that if you reach out there will always be someone there to take your hand.

All the Best

I already feel down enough, so it's important to only communicate for the time being, with people 'on your side'...not anyone who is going to make you feel even worse...If I hear any put downs on me, I surely try to avoid that person until the storm passes...I pray an awful Lot, knowing that the Lord knows what He is doing, and try to realize, that it is all for a reason, no matter how painful it might be..God Bless darlin
