Need outsider advice for life decisions...?!

Question: Okay, here is some background...

I'm in my 20's. Have a career in allied health professions (working in a hospital)- in a small/medium sized town.
I've been working in this job for a year.
I've had a history of serious depression since my late teens. I feel like I've become more depressed, and numb working in this job because of seeing people in traumatic situations. I haven't made friends in the area, don't have much of a life. This is my fault, I just haven't wanted to be around people.
Now I am not sure what to do.. this job offers a steady income, and health insurance. I don't have a lot of experience outside of caregiver roles... so what else can I do.
Can anyone else relate, or do you have some advice... what would you do?

personally i would suggest moving away from the area. look into getting a new job in a new town, join a club to make new friends to begin with. If you dont like your career remember u will be in this for life, and changing now will be easier now than in the future. If u have to start from the bottom thats fine as long as ur happy. always put ur health and ur happiness before any job. I would suggest making sure u have plans set and ready befor u make any changes tho. Good luck

join a non-work group or club, find something you are interested in or would enjoy and pursue that, there is no need to give up your profession

find something that you like to do like, biking, reading, running anything. then maybe ask some people from work if they want to get a drink afterwork and see where it goes from there. what's the worst they will say? no?

Change your perspective on your job. Yes, these people may be in traumatic situations, but as a health professional you need to be able to detach yourself from this. Take reward from the fact that you are helping them through difficult times and don't take their problems on your shoulders. Try and build your social life. I experienced depression for 18 months and although getting out and being around people sounds SO much easier than it is, it honestly helps. When i got out and about again and started seeing friends, i recovered very quickly. I also work in healthcare and it is such a rewarding job, you just need to change the way you look at it. Good luck.

Don't give up your career! Try to find groups like the first poster said. Walk around the town get to know the town...
Are you on any meds for your depression? Do you see a counselor? Both of those things may be something to look into for you.

Good Luck

just try to make friends, and communivate and interact. Volunteer if you can.

Take some medicine for depression.

Just get out of the slump.

Live everyday like you last, and enjoy!!

Try becoming a socail worker, or something very social.

Get involved with the community.

See you family more often.

Find a club, organization or whatever, ask a co-worker to do something after work. Just make a friend, then another one. DO NOT isolate yourself that only makes things worse.
