Yes. I was mentally and physically abused by my peers in middle school (8 years ago) and all through high school I was quiet, shy and kept to myself. My confidence was extremely low and to this day remains low. Its something that a person never fully recovers from.
Well, everyone is different and I can tell you that yes, often these kids have issues with self advocacy and blame themselves for the abuse. However, if this is for a paper you should probably get a real source, like from a journal or research paper.

I was abused in middle school bad enough that I tried to kill myself and we had to move, but in high school I was popular and fun and energized, but on the inside it was all a game... So if that helps at all...
