Diagnosis Help?!

Question: My fifteen year old sister has been diagnosed with many mental problems including bi polar disorder, multiple personality disorder, PTSD, and a whole list of others, the thimg is that she can control these behaviors when she wants to or when she thinks that its in her benifit. In january she posioned my family with antifreeze. She has said since she was seven that she wanted to be the boss and the wife of the family, I guess my biggest question is Is there some sort of dissorder where she could pick up symptoms of actual mental health problem from what therapists say, what she sees on tv ect...

Something is not right here. Multiple personality disorder is called Dissociative identity disorder and is so very rare many doctors don't believe it exists.

You say that your sister tried to poison your family with antifreeze? That's attempted murder and I'm pretty sure your sister would be tried as an adult and be in prison. If she wasn't tried as an adult then she would be in a youth authority facility until she is twenty-one.

Maybe there's more to your story but right now I call fake.

Yes you can pick up the symptoms but with the diseases, you can also control them for a little bit and come in and out of it for a little bit. It is really hard to tell what the real truth is. If medication isn't working at all, I would wonder if she isn't playing some of it up. I feel for you. You have alot to deal with.

Hmmm. It's definitely a personality disorder. It's not just a querk. Why is she in the home if she tried to murder everybody? Jeez, the hell people keep on themselves! None of you owe her so much that you deserve assaults.

I can somewhat relate with your problem, but its not as severe. I recently adopted my fiances youngest sister, she is 14. She does very similar things. Just a brief history lesson, I have been around her and her sisters for about 8-9 years. She has 5 sisters. They all had a very bad childhood, so I do contribute some of her problems with that. But there are somethings that she does that I know she does on purpose just to get her way. Defiance, Lying, Stealing, Arguing, Fighting, etc. I have however been able to get her to "straighten up" sorta speak. Shes a great kid but I believe she was needing some sort of authority figure. I have been able to get her to stop doing those things just by calling her out on it. She hasnt gone as far as poisioning, now that enters it on an entirely different perspective. There is a disorder called: (with a brief description) Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is diagnosed when a child displays a persistent or consistent pattern of defiance, disobedience, and hostility toward various authority figures including parents, teachers, and other adults. ODD is characterized by such problem behaviors as persistent fighting and arguing, being touchy or easily annoyed, and deliberately annoying or being spiteful or vindictive to other people. Children with ODD may repeatedly lose their temper, argue with adults, deliberately refuse to comply with requests or rules of adults, blame others for their own mistakes, and be repeatedly angry and resentful. Stubbornness and testing of limits are common. These behaviors cause significant difficulties with family and friends and at school or work (DSM-IV; Weiner, 1997). Oppositional defiant disorder is sometimes a precursor of conduct disorder (DSM-IV).Children or adolescents with conduct disorder behave aggressively by fighting, bullying, intimidating, physically assaulting, sexually coercing, and/or being cruel to people or animals. Vandalism with deliberate destruction of property, for example, setting fires or smashing windows, is common, as are theft; truancy; and early tobacco, alcohol, and substance use and abuse; and precocious sexual activity. Girls with a conduct disorder are prone to running away from home and may become involved in prostitution. The behavior interferes with performance at school or work, so that individuals with this disorder rarely perform at the level predicted by their IQ or age. Their relationships with peers and adults are often poor. They have higher injury rates and are prone to school expulsion and problems with the law. Sexually transmitted diseases are common. If they have been removed from home, they may have difficulty staying in an adoptive or foster family or group home, and this may further complicate their development. Rates of depression, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and suicide itself are all higher in children diagnosed with a conduct disorder (Shaffer et al., 1996b)
I dont know what kind of childhood she had or so forth, but there is a major problem with your sister. Murder is a huge step. If I were your parents I would become very aggressive in finding out what her problem is, if there is a medical problem.
Please do not take this the wrong way, but think about it, Jeffery Domer, The Manson family, Ted Bundy. Research them. Iam not saying your sister is a serial killer, but trying to kill your family................something is WRONG
