Has anyone else experienced rude treatment in A&E after self harm/suicide attemp!

Question: I was wondering if anyone out there has gone to get treatment for self harming and been treated like a piece of dirt by uncaring medical staff?I got into a really distressed state the other day I was really worried&upset how out of control I was feeling so I went to A&E as I had been advised by my doc to do when I get really bad&when I got there I was put on a bed not spoken to for hours&when they took my blood I had a panic attack I was terrified&dissociating. They didnt ask me any medical history or anything so I assumed they had my notes when they were making all these judgements about me&then it turned out after all that that they couldnt find my notes & knew nothing about me&they were just treating me that way because of their own issues with so called 'self harmers'.I was furious-you are told to ask for help when you need it but when you do you are treated like nothing&told that if you really wanted to die you would have tried harder-I didnt want 2 die I just wanted the pain stop

Dissociating? Does that mean you have DID? (i do...) That's horrible that you were treated that way! I ALWAYS have a friend or family member go with me to the ER. That way, I have an advocate. When the nurse treats me like crap, someone's there to say that's not okay. So, yes, I've been treated horribly by nursing staff, and it sucks.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Don't give up and if you need to go back - do it. Keep communication with your doctor open.

PS: What is A&E?

wow, i know of a very similar story belonging to someone very close to me. she suffers from migraines<sp?> and has been diagnoised with a mental illness. i dont know what A&E is, but she has gone to hospitals for help before. Mostly to get the headaches to stop. they are dibilitating<sp?> She has gotten treatment just as bad or worse. The medical professionals have a history of not being the careing, well mannered people we hope/portray them to be. I'm sorry for you experiance.......

There will always be people worse off so don't put yourself down. You will always be important. If you are hurting and in pain, you deserve help and to be treated with respect. Whether you will get respect or not is another thing. Most of us are usually not prepared for the way medical personnel treat us which is typically cold.

Just remember you always as important as the next person. Your pain is as real as anyone else.
