So, is it possible?!

Question: to get anti-anxiety medication from your family doctor? i always thought you had to go to a psychiatrist and get evaluated.

if so, how would i go about asking? i'm only seveteen, so i know i would need my parents consent. they're kinda anti-medication, but i'm so sick and tired of being panicky and paranoid. I would really like to see if medication and therapy [which i'm currently in] would help me get through this.

all answers are welcomed and would be much appreciated.

yes, general practitioners *can* prescribe psychoactive medications (xanax, prozac, whatever) but my personal (not professional) recommendation would be to get it from a psychiatrist. my reason for suggesting this is that a psychiatrist is more familiar with the drugs in question, their appropriateness for your situation, side effects, and will be better able to manage your case. i know people who have gotten meds from a GP and have had bad outcomes. psychoactive drugs are serious business, and not to be taken lightly. it's great that you're in therapy. if they're not a psychiatrist, ask them to refer you to a psychiatrist who can evaluate you, prescribe meds, and track your progress. keep up with the therapy, all meds work much better in combination with talk therapy.

Well you should talk to your parents or school counci or nurse and tell them how you feel an that you need help... They will take it from there

I am 17 and I take cybalta for anti-anxiety/ anti-depressant medication. It has no side effects and has worked wonders on me! I got it prescribed from my family doctor so I know you can too! If your parents are anti-medication you can talk to them about how you feel and for a compromise suggest a low dose. Good luck though!

I don't know if this will work for you - but please try it and give me ur feedback. I have S.A.D and My mom always ttells me that I always seem to walk with my head down. I nvever noticed until now... when I tried the method of walking with perfect posture and head straight - up - try not to make ur head go down. Try it and see if it will make all ur anxieties go away... cuz it did for me...

PS - get bk to me on this!!! Its free and natural!
