Bipolar question?!

Question: I've lived with Bipolar all of my life and I didn't get treatment until I was 17 yrs old because it hit me hard with depression. Anyway, I've been on Prozac for 13 yrs because of my depression and the doctor has just started to put me on Amitriptilyne (can't spell it) anyway, this is to help me sleep at night and it's working BUT i feel terribly groggy the next day and wooly headed. Will this ease off? I work full-time so I full function and people know that I have my mood swings. I get my highs and lows but more lows. I love highs when I have them though =) I feel like I'm ontop of the world.

My question is.. Does anyone else suffer with Bipolar as well?

Give your body a chance to adjust to the new medication. It can take several weeks for side effects to dissipate. If after a while you're still groggy talk to your doctor about trying a different medication. It is possible to find a combination of medications that bring you back to a fairly normal level.

I'm currently having trouble balancing my medication dosage to a point where I don't feel dulled out by it, but I'm not uncomfortably unstable. It's hard to lose the highs, but totally worth it to also lose the lows, especially if that's where you spend most of your time, like me.

I also have bipolar disorder. I'm taking olanzapine (Zyprexa).

I have been told by non medical people ..ADHD, mult-personality and or BI_polar and self medicate with delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol ,..you can look it up..I was on Effexor and it helped ..but if you are a young adult or teen there is the risk of suicide..I also have my family and my #1 support, my Faith in God !

Try using 2 to 3 mg of melatonin for sleep and see if going natural isn't a better option.

Read all you can about getting healthy through food and natural supplements. Find a passion and become an expert in some area that would be helpful to a lot of people. Happiness is striving toward worthwhile goals.

We can pull ourselves out of depression by beating a newspaper on a chair and pumping ourselves up. It is taught as a Dale Carnegie technique. Splitting firewood for ten minutes will do it too.

I suffer from bipolar II, and was diagnosed at 15. The trick is finding the right medication to stabalize our mood swings. I personally think that Prozac isn't right for you. Its pretty old school and there are much better, newer meds out there. I take Abilify, and from all the tons of meds I've been through, this one is golden. You shouldn't be experiencing many swings when taking meds properly. Also, your sleeping meds are to strong it sounds like. Talk to your dr. and tell them its time for a change. Your body is looking for something else now. Dont limit yourself if there might be something better out there. Best of luck :)
