Im addicted to Video Games, do I need help?!

Question: I love playing video games. I have ditched friends many times just to play some Call of Duty 4 or some Final Fantasy 11 online, the latter of which consumes my time like no other. I even have it installed at work and sneak play it there minimizing anytime my boss walks by. I feel like I dont get anything done like I used to. I havent had a girlfriend in 2 years and mind you Im a pretty good looking guy. I know everyone has their vices but am I out of control? What should I do?

I had the SAME problem with FFXI.

I played all of the time. I even made up lies to get my brother banned from the computer so I could play more.
I played constantly...all day deep into the night, as late as 4:00 PM.
I realized how I didn't do homework anymore because I played so much. It was so much fun.

It isn't a problem unless it interferes with your life and you don't like it interfering. Then you need to do something.

I was about to go college and I realized I needed to focus on my work and a social life, instead of the game.

I gave away all of my items to my friends in the game and then
I uninstalled it, deleted all the files, burned the instruction manual and snapped the CD.

I STILL think about the game...4 years later. I wish I could go back and reverse my actions sometimes, but overall I am glad about what I did. My life would be so different than it is. Needles to say I have just about everything I could ever ask for, and if I never quit I wouldn't have it.

Do what I did and quit cold turkey. You really can't go back unless you buy another game and start from scratch. I know it sounds like it sucks...but it's worth it.

Just play one game every now and then...but if you can't control yourself it's time to quit.

Many people are in the same situation..

Try not to make it go too far,

I've been addicted to alot of games, just dedicate some time for playing and time for work/friends..I know its hard..its probably as hard as qutting smoking XD, but seriously, if you play less and less everyday it'll get better...

either that, or you finish Call of duty 4,

Good luck,

If this is a serious question, then here is my response:
In my opinion, if anything regularly affects your social life, work, or family negatively, it's way out of control. I'm not sure i would go as far as saying you need help, but you do need to do what is necessary to get your life back in order. Even if that means getting a job where you don't have access to a computer, i mean, thats only if you're extremely concerned. And come on, you know hanging out with friends is better than call of duty... sick game though
<3

Naah, I'm 20 and i play for about 6-7 hours every day and I've never had a girlfriend in my life. Video games are far more interesting and funnier than girlfriends. I wouldn't call myself an addict though.

But remember this, If it prevents you from doing your work/studies then you're an addict!

Make a chart that you can scheduele a certain amount of video games a day and dont acceed that time. Then cut back each week.

Video games can take up an infinite amount of time.

They're fun!

But, if someone asks you in December what you did this year, you don't want to tell them you played a lot of video games and didn't accomplish anything.

They are fun, but being "addictive" is not necessarily a good thing. What I would do is gather up every single one of your games and take them to your grandmother's house.

Then, you can still play them, but you'll be playing them only when you go to visit her, not every goddam hour of every frickin' day.

This is true for every gamer in the United States. They should all stop.
