Distinguishing a personality disorder?!

Question: i'm not trying to ask anyone to diagnose me and i know the best thing to do is a see a doctor... however i dont have any insurance so its kinda hard to just go do that. I want to know if anyone knows any good websites or even tests for personality disorders... basically i thought i was just depressed for a long time but there are a lot of other factors in it that make me think its leaning more towards either bipolar or borderline, maybe even in addition to depression..idk.... so if anyone knows any good information to help distinguish the two would be helpful. I do plan on seeking help when i can i'm just trying to learn what i can

If you're just gonna tell me only a doctor can tell me or say some crap about people just assuming they have disorders or anything rude then save everyones time and just dont answer.

You can try this website: http://nimh.nih.gov/
Just search for what you're looking for, and good luck! Ignore the people who are rude--if nothing else, I've learned that people just don't understand unless they've been there.

Webmd.com has a really good depression test. Don't even think about other mental disorders, try to stay positive. :)

I, like every other mental health professional, will caution you against diagnosing yourself. However, if you would like more information on mental disorders you can either look at the DSM IV which you could find at pretty much any library or try http://allpsych.com/disorders/index.html... Both will give you some good information on signs of a mental disorder.

im bipolar and still depressed.. you can look online under deppreshion.com...or bipolar.com...these will teach you about yourself..dont depend on any forums you read..people sometimes just make up things... GOOD LUCK TOO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wont b rude sweetie but i actually am bipolar it stemed from me being a child and having ADD so please get back to me and let me know your symptoms and i will ask my doctor when i see him so you wont have to waste your money going 2 a doctor 4 no reason i hope i helped a little

I googled bipolar help and got a lot of websites about bipolar disorder. You can take a quiz to see if you have the symptoms. The same is true for borderline personality disorder sites. I have bipolar with borderline traits so diagnosis can be tricky. I know you didn't want to hear about DR. but if you don't have insurance or a lot of money, many places have free mental health clinics to help you. Good luck.

Let me start by saying the following is just information, I don't want you to think I'm trying to diagnose you (but I am a Dr. and mental health profesional.)

You asked about whether or not what you're experiencing could be a couple of things, chronic depression, bipolar disorder or even borderline personality disorder. Let's just talk a little about the similarities and differences in these three diagnoses.

Chronic depression is very common and can include continuous feelings of depressed mood or, periodic episodes of depressed mood with intermittent feelings of normal mood. The symptoms of depression also can include the following: Disturbances of sleep, appetite and weight (too much or too little of all of these) feelings of hopelessness, helplessness and/or worthlessness, guilt, concentration problems, loss of interest, loss of the experience of pleasure (including and particularly sex drive), and thoughts of self-harm.

Now, all of the above may be present for people who suffer bipolar disorder, but in addition, bipolar disorder is a disturbance of mood stability, so there may also be problems with inability to quiet the mind, racing thoughts, scattered and disorganized problem solving (starting on 3-4 projects at a a time and never completing any), impulsivity, feelings of invincibility, increased sexual drive and sometimes, increased sexual behavior, poor judgment, and lack of the need for sleep.

Borderline personality disorder is a personality style marked by instability in both a person's sense of self and how they relate to others. This instability generates poor boundaries between the individual and those who they relate to, intense relationships that do not match the circumstances (eg a person falling in desparate love with a teacher who has simply been kind to them, then stalks the teacher), and the manipulation of others in relationships to get what that individual deems as their personal needs. These people often use sex as a tool and/or weapon to get what they want and have no remorse when they hurt others. They can appear very warm and emotionally available then become cold and calculating/manipulative very rapidly.

I hope this was helpful. For people with no insurance, there are almost always community mental health centers available for you to get some level of service.

good luck

aj

just google "personality disorder quiz" there are a lot of them. personality disorders, though, are all on a spectrum. that is, everyone has *some* characteristics of "narcissistic personality disorder", "hystrionic personality disorder", etc. it's just that "normal" ppl rank a 1 or 2 out of 10 on those scales. understanding more about your personality might help guide you to certain reading or a better understanding of your difficulties, but you're right - a mental health professional would be the way to go...
