...from experience most child psychologist usually see the parent first..to get an idea of what type of behavior you and your child are experiencing. After that the psychologist use a technique called "play therapy" to get to know your child and behavior problems. For the most part the parents are asked back in after the session for discussion, issues and the child is brought back in for conclusion..and from there on....

yes i think it is because when i saw my doctor i had that and im 14

Confidentiality with minors is a complicated issue. The psychologist will probably wish to spend some time with the child alone. However, he/she should definitely be willing to talk to you about your son's progress. In all likelihood, given your child's age, you would undergo family counseling as well as individual counseling for your son.

I went through counseling at age 8. My parents had access to all of my records (I think - I don't remember real well). It's usually not too big of an issue with young children. It's more of an issue with teens, because they are more likely to not wish to have parents involved.

i don't think so. i was able to sit in on sessions w/my child for the most part. when i didn't i was called in afterwards & spoke w/the psychologist about the session. but this was back in the 90's. i hope everything works out for 7year old.

yes, the dr. can only tell you if they are at harm to themself or others..

At THAT young, you should be able to have a pretty good idea of what's going on. You most likely won't get a word by word transcript, but the counselor should work WITH you about areas to help your child. Otherwise, I would think the effort is mostly pointless.

Kudos for WANTING to be involved..a lot of parents just want to shove their kids onto professionals and not deal with any of the helping themselves..good luck!
