What are the chances of me passing on schizophrenia?!
Question: Ok, I'm 25. I have 3 younger brothers that which 2 out of 3 have schizophrenia. I do NOT. My boyfriend & I want kids, but I don't think I can deal with this again. What do you think are my honest chances of passing on schizophrenia?

I found a webpage with a **fantastic** chart:
http://www.schizophrenia.com/family/FAQo...
It's about 1/5 of the way down the page.
Personally, I don't think it's a good idea. Consider a donated egg. I have a mental disorder, and life sucks. No way I would do that to a child. Cruel.
No, it's not heriditary in that sense. But living with you will probably make your kids be all kinds of screwed up anyway, so be ready for that.
the chances i think would be very good. my mom has schizophrenia on both sides of her family. my grandma has it and a most of my grandpas brothers have it. out of there kids i believe 2 of them have developed the mental disorder. but also they did alot drugs and have addiction problems as well. i think adding those brings out the disorder faster. now i think that even I sometimes have a disorder. not full blown schizophrenia but something that makes me worry that in the future i could have it. i think it is easily passed down from what I have seen in my family
Not much chance; I for one do not believe there is any definitive evidence schizophrenia is genetic. There are some indications such as twin studies but no solid proof.
