Something I really want to do..?!

Question: Well it's not really anything big but I want to be kind of more laid back. Before most parties I'm really nervous about the drink there (I was born because my father raped my mother while drunk) I have a small phobia about drink. But when I'm there and have a few glasses of vodka I'm ok. It's just before it, it puts me off the night ahead and is annoying. I'm 15 - 16 in may. Yes, I drink but hardly. Only at parties never on the streets. I'm not a waste of a life. I have a good education - I just live the teenage life. I want to live my teenage years like the people of Skins, ready to party. Not nervous before and then ok through it. How can I accomplish this?

The kind of cool thing about the characters on 'Skins' is that they are strong characters, in a way, and happy to be themselves. You could even picture them putting a character on there who is still very unique and awsome and wonderful but a character who doesnt drink cos they just dont want to and they would not seem out of place to the tone of the programme.

Doesnt mean you are not enjoying you teen years properly if you dont drink or whatever it just means you are one of those cool people who live their life their way and is strong minded and independant and wont be dictated to by anyone nor their life governed by 'teenage norms'. People look up to people like that because they see strength in them that they wish they had.

The teen drunk scene is all false anyway - really are these people at their very happiest in this state or are they only happy becasue they are conforming to what they think they are supposed to be doing during their teenage years.......... Its actually really tragic that teenage years are milestoned and marked by the need to get drunk in order to pass from childhood into adulthood........

Whatever you do just remain true to yourself and be strong in your convictions never do anything because you feel you have to or should expecially when your gut feeling is telling you not to.

I am also thinking wow 15 - should you not be doing something eles with your time anyway....is your mum not slightly concerned that you are out drinking when your body hasnt even finished growing ....?

dont drink

Go to the parties and try not drinking.......if that is what is making you freak, don't do it. :)

try some yoga or mediation it does wonders for nerves. and please NEVER drink and drive or get in a car with someone who does! Please!

Just think about how much better you'll feel once you get it over with, but maybe you shouldnt be drinking anyway..some people dont like to, maybe your one and just dont realize it..

With you father being an alcoholic and the now proven correlation between genes and alcoholism, I'd shy away from it all together lest you find yourself in full blown alcoholism later in life.

To be honest I am always nervous before any social gathering and I dont think that it will ever go away for me..... I dont think what you experience is unusual I just think you need to go out more often and it may go away

ok well u can not drink at all and just have fun i know drinking is not all we do try hanging out with girls

You would have to sacrifice some of your wonderful lovely intelligence to do this!!!!!

Too many young people start off a lifetime of being a rotten selfish drunk like this.

Lots of people only have a beer or two at a party and have fun. Life is a lot of fun and it doesn't need drinking. CERTAINLY not before you are 21, too!

Just be yourself. Get into the things you love- you don't need drunkeness.

You sound too smart for it. EVERYONE gets nervous about things. You just take deep breaths and march on....

Never be the first to drink from anything at a party and always watch to see if anything happens to anyone who does drink from something. People will spike stuff, and there is a huge history of people being raped like your mom was, or otherwise negatively affected. Don't think it can't or won't happen to you even with people you know. In essense try not to drink from opened containers unless you yourself opened them and don't drink from anything you set down for awhile, just be cautious, it only takes one mistake to end up as your mom did, and people could care less who they hurt in general (they often brag about it and think its funny).

being laid back is easy. Im 16 i party a lot to, but if u wanna be laid back drinking isnt the good answer. I just watched a video in class today that one of my classmates made and it was sad. u no vodka has liquior inside of it which is one of the most deadliest drugs. so becareful, it may also cause u to become drunk and do things you dont know ur doing or want to do. so really the way to go is to not drink, just enjoy, dance with the ladies, it will be all good

Thats easy, just pre-game a few beer or shots before you get there.

Enjoy your teenage years as much as you can, drunk or sober, because they'll be gone before you know it. ;)

Your body is telling you what your mind already knows. Don't do it. If you went to the party and didn't drink, didn't plan to drink, and knew what you were going to do, you'd feel more poised, laid back, and more in charge.

Sometimes, it is good to listen to our bodies.

This is one of those times...

please don't drink, the nervous thing is a good thing, you should be a little nervous if people could be getting drunk at a party! I am sorry about your mom though. really sorry, i am sure i can't imagine bein gin your situation
and i have been aloud to taste alcohol, like dip my finger in a cup and like it, and that stuff is disgusting! I don't know how you like it!
