Obsessive compulsive disorder and tics?!

Question: is it normal to get tics with ocd like head jerking, grunting etc

Answers: is it normal to get tics with ocd like head jerking, grunting etc

those are common symptoms of OCD

No, that's a completely different disorder altogether. OCD has nothing to do with Tourette Syndrome (tics and other things like that).

No it's not "normal". I have observed that these things are stress related. Sometimes people (kids usually) have too much pressure or unresolved issues that manifest themselves in odd breathing patterns or other behaviors. Usually this goes away when whatever is "getting" you/them goes away. If not seek professional counseling, in rare instances these things can become debilitating later in life.

Yes and No I would think. I have been going over some OCD stuff in studies, and I am slightly OCD. Not even to a noticeable level though.
I would say if your disorder is at large a tic or at least a twitch could develope.

OCD is a very general way of describing a whole range of metal & physical symptoms that u can suffer from. depending on what type of OCD(s) u have, yes, jerking, vocal sounds, etc, can be part of those symptoms.

also, have u thought about the posibilities of it being tourette's syndrome ? that doesn't always mean u swear uncontrollably - more often than not the symptoms are uncontrollable jerking movements and noises.

to be honest, i think for a definate diagnosis, u would need the advice and opinion of a doctor.

need to know more about this, often its about anxiety rather than OCD
when does it happen, is it when you are stressed? or when you are performing rituals?
medication can prevent these tics.........Dothiepin works well

Hi, Little H,
OCD can happen in isolation, but when combined with the tics you describe, it points to Tourette Syndrome. Please visit www.tsa.org.uk for a fuller explanation.

yes because it won't do nothing to you all u have to do is be yourself

There is a very high correlation between having Tourette's and having OCD -- I.e. people with Tourette's are likely to have OCD. That doesn't work the other way round necessarily, if you have OCD you are not _likely_ to have Tourette's (because Tourette's is uncommon), but there is a close association between the two. This suggests the genes for the two conditions are closely related.

So in answer to your question, Tourette's is indeed statistically associated with OCD.
