Phycologist?!

Question: Well Im in the 6th grade and when I get older I want to be a phycologist. I like to help people. But I'm scared because on the news I hear things about people who were phycologists or phycyatrist (spelling ??) were killed by they're patients. btw I want to be a phycologist not the other one cause the other kind gives medication and I dont want to. So anyway I want to know I'm safe when I'm older. And is there another thing I can be that helps people buts safer??

Social worker (dont work in Dept of Children and Families though), nurse, counselor, mental or physical therapist

To make money and get good jobs, be prepared for more than 4 years of college. You will want to get your Master's degree (at least) and in most cases you will need to get licensed which requires time in the field and taking a test.

wow...yeah... you can learn how to spell it - that would be a good first step...

carry a gun

It's "psychologist."

If you're interested, you should see if your school has a social worker or school psychologist and talk to him or her about his/her job to find out more.

It's relatively safe. You shouldn't let some news stories keep you from doing something you're passionate about.

As a physiologist, the threat to yourself is quite slim the news generally picks on on the few cases but in truth your pretty safe. A councilor is possibly safer and is a very similar job style, additionally as a councilor you can choose who to sell your help to. Meaning you only deal with who you feel safe dealing with.

please learn to spell psychologist first
you will need to get excellent grades in your subjects and go to university to get a degree in psychology
then you will need to get work as an assistant psychologist
after that you will need to get a placement where they will give you training as a clinical psychologist
it will take you about 7 years after you leave school

You may want to be a nurse (wont pay nearly as much though) um...a teacher? Honestly no job is 'safe' there are so many whackos out there. You should probably wait and see how you feel about your career when you are a junior and senior. Just get good grades so you can get into a good college.

Look into sociology, where psychology looks at people's brains to determine why they do what they do, sociology looks at how society can actually make someone want to commit suicide, conform to rules, etc. It's actually really interesting because psychology fails to acknowledge that other factors--like people, the fear of embarrassment, etc--can have a huge affect on the way we conduct ourselves. You may have to look into what careers a degree in Sociology would offer, but it could be a good alternative.

Talk to someone who has experience in this field.
