Do you take lithium for bipolar disorder? What are the benefits?!

Question: For me lithium has worked better than any other med as far as reigning me in. It does make ya thirsty and at first it can give you a headache and for some a tremor of the hands but eventually the body adjusts. There are several mood stabilizers out there depakote, lamictal etc but talk with your doc. Also dont drink on lithium it just makes the dose too low and you dont benefit from taking the med...personal exp heheh.

It is suppose to help with the disorder, but it really didnt do anything for me.

I herd that it is a very good drug my husband will go on this if the other medicine does not work.

But It can cause Weigh Gain.

Lithium was the best mood stabilizer I ever took. Yes, it is most commonly prescribed to people suffering from bipolar disorder. Only annoying thing when I was on it, was I had to have blood test done every month to keep an eye on the levels like sodium and such in the body. Remember, medications do not effect everyone the same way because of body chemistry.

I took lithium for my depression but it is commonly prescribed for bipolar disorder. It did nothing for me. However it is suppose to help stabilize your emotions. I've been told by quite a few people that it has really helped them be able to control themselves.
