~ Is this seasonal depression? ~?!

Question: I think I might have seasonal depression. Well, I just realized that the only time I cut myself has been in the winter. Funny how you don't notice things like that unless you pay attention. But anyways, I also always, I guess, 'change'. Sometimes my grades will drop really low, this year all d's. Other times I'll over exercise every day of the winter and Idk why. Another time I starved myself and became severely skinny. Idk why I do that either. When summer rolls around I change completely. Right now it's starting to be the end of winter and I'm pulling up my grades and feeling better. This winter was especially tough for me, and right now I'm just glad I made it through without killing myself. Can anyone tell me what to do? My mom sent me to a therapist before, but that was when it wasn't severe at all. I felt like I didn't need to go so I stopped. If I tell her I want to go again I'll feel really stupid and embarressed...Oh btw, she has seasonal depression along with my grandma.

When I first started reading your question, I was immediately struck with the thought that if you are cutting, then what you are suffering with is WAY MORE SERIOUS than a minor case of seasonal depression. Then I kept reading, and got to the part where you said you always "change"...... weight fluctuation, changes in concentration and ambition, suicidal thoughts..... Sweetheart, it sounds to me like you may have some form of bipolar disorder. (Probably bi-polar 2 .... but I'm no doctor)!!!! I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder myself (I have rapid cycling bipolar so I "change alot" too.... only I change every few hours or days, whereas your "episodes" last a few months. I know the feelings you are dealing with, but BELIEVE ME..... if you get professional help, with the correct diagnosis and medication, you will feel a HUGE difference in your symptoms. Oh.... and it is typical for bipolar people to think they are "better" when they are not experiencing a severe episode, and quit therapy. You have so many signs that point to bipolar, which is a very serious biological disorder that only worsens over time if gone untreated. PLEASE talk to your mom (There's no reason to be embarrassed....... it's not your fault, you didn't ask to be afflicted with this.... would you be embarrassed to tell your mom that you had diabetes or multiple sclerosis????) and do some online research. The link I listed below will give you a "quiz" to see if your symptoms point to bipolar disorder. I'm in your corner sweetheart, and just know that there's no reason for you to feel ashamed or alone.......

You possibly could have seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Many people are affected by it during the winter months it has something to do with less direct sunlight. Talk to your Dr the next time you get these feelings.

you probably do have seasonal depression. and here's some advice for the future: while you're cooped up inside during the cold months, try talking more with you're friends, ones that understand you. i just told someone my deepest darskest secret the other day, and it has relieved me so much to know that i can have someone to talk to that actually knows me.

This is known as SAD, "Seasonal Affective Disorder". It is very common and there is help for it...your body needs more light and since winter is gloomy, well you probably feel down. This usually starts from Oct through March(pending region you live). There are doctors that treat this disorder....very common, but most people don't know this...good luck
