Why does society overlook people who are different?!

Question: like mental illness different

Answers: like mental illness different

Fear of who the person is and fear that they might become like that person. And ignorance all though not really an excuse allows us not to take responsibility. For if we don't have to take responsibility, we can say I owe noone except myself.

I've thought about this alot as I have bipolar. I've had to be honest at times and it can be embarrassing, but it does open up conversations for others who have loved ones suffer.

Humans always judge.

cause they suck

Mostly because they're scared of what they don't understand.

they dont...there are hundreds of organizations and funds for poeple with mental illness, or anything else wrong with you for that matter. To be honest...if you DONT have anythinything wrong with you your overlooked.

Differently abled?...............well,this is a selfish world we live in .there is no kindnessleft

It is because we label people as "mentally ill". Everyone is different and there is no 'right' way to be and until people realize that they will always overlook "them".

It is actually your flaw for throwing them into such a broad category as "mentally ill".

i dont think society overlooks people. society "forgets" them. and i mean we see things, but turn our backs on them or the situation.

I guess no one wants to be bothered... That's why it's just easier to ignore them... Sad but true...

Because they don't understand.

bc ppl have noughthing better to do i guess.. i think it makes them feel better about them selves when they pick out other ppl problems and not relize they have many also

Many people don't understand anyone who is different than they are....could be due to various reasons, but the result is basically the same....society overlooks people who are different...sometimes, just the perception that someone is different is enough to do it.

Because there quick 2 judge and r always slaping a lable on something. Most people naturally turn away from whats diffrent from what there used to because they have a subconcious fear of what they can not fully understand.

We don't overlook them we are frightened of them. I mean we as a society. I have worked in a nursing home and a state mental hospital. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. I love people that are different. They make life intresting.
I have never felt so needed as when I worked around people that really needed me . It was great.

Alot of people in society probably tend to feel that mental illness is a burden or a threat among society, overlooking it is people easy way of dealing with it. But it is the wrong way!

It does always depend. Do you mean Forrest Gump mental illness or Hannibal Lecter mental illness?

Because mental health problems often involve "strange behaviour", which people interpret the wrong way. And also, some things such as schizophrenia have been portrayed in very negative ways by the media.

You are different from them, but you are not different from me, and I'M a part of society just like them. And there are MANY MANY MANY people in society living with mental illness, so maybe you're not so different after all???? Think about it.
