Do natural "anti-depressants/mood enhancers" work?!

Question: My boyfriend was telling me about this H2GB I'll be damned if I can remember what it was actually called but it was just a bunch of letters... ANYWAY it's some natural thing you can get at any drug store that's supposed to be natural and be a mood enhancer. I'm sure there are others besides this one...

Anyway has anyone tried anything like this before and did they work?
For someone who suffers slightly from depression that is especially bad while PMSing, would you recommend trying these tablets or would going the whole nine yards and getting "happy" pills be a better route? I'd prefer not...

Thanks :)

I have had anxiety and slight depression for a couple years now. I tried lexapro and zoloft only for 1-3 days, and guess what? i ended up in the ER. they are just not for me. Then i found out about homeopathic medicines.I took "ignatia amara 30 c or 30 x" 3 times a day for one week and then reduced it to only once daily. Let me tell you I didnt think this was going to work but man i got better in "2" days. homeopathic medicines are all herbal remedies, they are made from certain plants but they are diluted so much that they cannot harm any one. yup it says it on the every bottle. they are even safe for infants as well as pregnant women and normal adults. I wouldnt recommend St. John's wort because it has said to have some side effects.
i hope this helps. if u need more info about homeopathy just google "homeopathic medicines" also u can search for differeny homeopathic meds for depression.

for ex. there is
pulsatilla" this is really good for if you feel like sad and/or crying . i have tried it ... i only tok it for 2 days. also try and see if you can find a homeopath near where you live. or even online .

It depends on the person and the degree of depression, as each remedy effects an individual differently. I myself have had fairly good luck with St. John's Wort (natural supplement available at drug stores and health food places) as well as using essential oils. Don't discount counseling! Sometimes it really does help to talk with someone, even if its only for a couple months.

Things like St John's Wort are supposed to have some of the effectiveness of SSRIs ( Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors ) but the pharmacological strength is too variable to be trusted. Better go to a physician for the proper diagnosis together with a prescription for an approved SSRI if it is indicated. Just because something is "natural" and sold without a prescription doesn't mean that it is safe. It might have side effects and, more likely, will not have the efficacy of a drug prescribed by a physician.

I suffer frm depression myself onli iv been diagnosed with severe depression. as u only slightly suffer from it i think it would be wise to try the natural ones first to see wether or not they work for u. much better than polluting ur body with chemicals....

i started the happy pill for 90 days and stopped it cold goes deep into the mind i would label it mood altering drug and dangerous no e z way out

I would suggest that you buy some ginsing, the good stuff.
IT will give you energy and make you feel stong and good.
Natural remadys may not work as well as prescribed meds,
but the side affect to meds are terrible and I would just suggest that you both spend alot of time trying to enjoy life.
Get out and have some fun, laugh, and try not to use and
prescription meds. They can be very harmful.

For some people the route of taking natural remedies helps. However for me they didn't; and I found out why, I am bipolar, so the chemicals in my brain had to be re-balanced so I could be on an even keel with my moods. I remember PMSing too, and it was pretty bad for me. I would get cranky and mean for no reason, or so I thought. After I was diagnosed with being bipolar, every thing just fell into place for me.
I did take vitamins for PMS and even took some of the over the counter drugs that did actually help some. But I know now if I had of had the proper diagnosis then, I would of not suffered as much as I did, or my family. So, first make sure you aren't bipolar first, then talk to your doc about the proper medication for PMSing.

H2GB, isn't that another kind of Bird Flu?
There's something to be said for natural remedies, the Chinese have been using them for years.
There are some good natural remedies out there, believe it or not Lavendar, or Lavendar Oil is meant to be very good for relaxing you, try burning a Lavendar candle or insense stick.
But I would suggest speaking to your Doctor first, just so he/she can determine your level of depression, and maybe advise you on the affectiveness of the particular natural remedy your boyfriend mentioned.
Best of luck
