When I get depressed I can't sleep in my bed?!

Question: I don't know why this is, but whenever I am sad or depressed I sleep on the couch....does anyone else do something like this?

YES!

You just made me realize why I can't sleep unless it is on the couch.
I just cannot get comfortable, like my head is so heavy from thinking too much, i worry about absolutely everything and just switched to a new anxiety med that i think is making me worse...

i just put two and two together, thanks.
maybe it is because a couch fits one person comfortably laying down and it feels more secure, where as a bed you can feel kind of lost in...and more alone (even if someone is sleeping next to you)

dont know...

good luck

I think it's because it's something you are not used to. I know for me when feeling depressed, something about the couch just feels more comfortable, simply because it's something different.

My husband does the exact same thing. He's just started sleeping in bed in the last couple of months, after finding a treatment that is helping his depression.

It may seem funny to you or peculiar...but "the restless syndrome" of sleep is unique.
Being able to sleep on your sofa as opposed to your bed is your own "baby blanket" ...the blanket you tugged around when you were an infant as security. It is in essence a sleeping pill for you. I would ponder that you are upset about something more so than "depressed" since depression in itself will make you want to sleep. Being worried or upset over anything can bring on insomnia.

As far as other people moving to the sofa...maybe not just the sofa but just a change of environment...even another room in another bed will relieve the anxiety. And you can take magnesium ....available at any drug counter....no prescription needed which will relieve the insomnia effect of restlessness.
The negative side of that is that it will possibly give you diarrhea initially which then will have you up and down periodically all night.

Solution is a good sleep aid of some sort that will not only help you go to sleep but will keep you sleeping. Sleep will then in effect resolve your worries and issues...

maybe this didn't answer your question directly...but I tried.
For my my baby blanket when I can't sleep, I sit up and read
in a soft whisper....eventually I get tired of whispering and I drift off...the vocalizing of the words takes my mind off what is making me worry.

too long..couldn't help it...just wanted to help you

good luck

Well, when you are depressed you have something that is bothering you in your life or you dn't like life at ALL. There are so many reasons why you cant sleep thou. It could be from depression or something else, the thought of the thing that is makeing you depressed. Get some Anti-Depression pills or something. Talk to someone that will listen or get something tha makes you feel good/happy (not drugs).
