Need help finding a good doctor for my son?!

Question: My son is 5 now and when he was 4 I took him to a psychologist that someone referred me too and I told the doctor that i thought he had autism or asperger's and all she did was open a book and told me to read two different pages and I told her that one page sounded more like him and she said well that proves it then that means he has ADHD and she told me the visit was over. That is all she did and I think she was a quack cause I didn't get anything figured out. There is something seriously wrong with him and I need to find a doctor that will help me diagnose him so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I have had people on here that was really rude and mean when answering. please don't waste my time if you are not nice and kind words. thank you very much for all your help

Hey! Maybe you should go talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist, or anyone that is actually trained to deal with mental disorders in children. Medical doctors, such as pediatricians, are not trained in this field, and all they know is to prescribe medications. If you're son has autism or asperger's NOW is the time to start treatmennt (I guess the same goes for ADHD), but sometimes the most adequate treatment is more cognitive-behavioural based, and medical doctors don't know how to do this or how to even deal with these situations. I suggest you get your child to see a clinical psychologist, their job IS to asses for disorders such as autism, ADHD, and asperger's. Email me if you want more info on any of these disorders (I have lots of info on this - Im studying to be a clinical child psychologist), or if you need help finding someone in your area.
Good Luck! :)

Phonebook.

His pediatritician is the best place to start, then he/she can refer you to the right place for testing.

Do you have a pediatrician? If not, locate one in your area. They will be able to point you in the right direction for diagnosis and treatment.

get to the nearest health clinic whenever you can, I think you're just unlucky that you met that ridicilously inexperienced person that should not be doing that job, they should definately not be like that.
they'll refer you to the right consultant or psychologist, that is a very important case so Im sure they'll be very careful and do their best with you.

Wow, i know they throw around ADHD or ADD way too much.
Children are children & not zombies who can sit still & quietly for hours on end.
Schools expect too much, i would do lots of research online, try the Mayo Clinic, they are great for everything, and i would see at LEAST 3 different doctors who were not referred by each other, before i started any medication.
My son was mis-diagnosed with add when he was about that age & they wanted him on amphetamines, speed, which after a week was obviously not working.
Finally found an older Dr & he suggested a small cup of coffee, not too strong for him every morngin before school. Also eliminated red dyes from his diet & sugar to a minimum.
He was just a normal active child, and more people should know that instead of jumping to all the medical & pills jargon.

good luck to you & your son

hopefully you can find a sympathetic dr. who will not dismiss you as to book terms as you described.

Healthplan Book
Look at the area you want..them call it and make an appointment..

well being diagnosed with adhd myself i have a question on what kind of habits he has and how he reacts to things people say or do. does he have trouble making friends? or any trouble keeping focused on one thing? Try giving him riddilin because thats good for ADHD but it did some odd things to me like changed my diet habbits and gave me some odd hillusinations but these side effects are different and vary with people but he is little so dont give him a large dose. if you want to know more about adhd post it on here and i will get with u asap and i hope my info helped.

I recently bought "The Bipolar Child" book because my teen was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The issue of finding competent care is seriously addressed in this book, and an amazing list of resources is provided within. They are too numerous for me to list, but I recommend that you a) get this book, or b) visit BPParents website for an immediate list of competent providers.
You'd be amazed at the author's hypothesis that adhd/ asbergers may actually be bipolar in disguise(and therefore, misdiagnosed and mis-medicated).
Good luck!!!!
