For people with ADHD: Do you ever have this problem?!

Question: I have ADHD, and I'm really trying to work on my social skills. Many of my social skills problems stem from impatience and anxiety, which are commonly found in people with ADHD. I work with the public, so it is essential that I practice being patient and less anxious. Since I've begun practicing patience and working on my anxiety levels, I've had better relations with people. Unfortunately, though, I feel like my excess energy is being pent up and I now fidget more often. I have an appointment with a therapist and a psychiatrist in a month and I hope to get meds for ADHD then. However, I need some way to release my pent-up energy until then. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you found any solutions?

Someone already mentioned it but cut down on sugar and caffeine. Be sure to cut down on caffeine slowly. Quitting cold-turkey can be horrible (headaches, jitters, etc.) Take up an activity that uses up your extra energy, like walking/jogging, dancing, etc. Even 15 minutes vigorous activity daily can have a profound effect on your mood. Another thing you can do to help with anxiety is meditation. It seems to work best for people with difficulty focusing, like myself, to rid yourself of the excess energy (by exercise) before sitting down to meditate. Just some free, drug-less options that may help.

Studies have show that things like lack of natural sunlight, use of refined sugars, and food additives can exasperate symptoms. Get outside more (walking/jogging). Cut down on heavily processed foods. Cut out refined (white) sugar and fake sugars (NutraSweet, Equal, Splenda, etc.). Buy organic, if possible, or look for products with the fewest number of chemical additives, especially food coloring and corn oil.

I also take supplements daily - B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, Vitamin C, grapeseed extract and fish oil - and they seem to help.

And turn off the TV. Engage in an activity that makes you focus, instead.

Try to cut down on your caffiene and sugar. It helps me. Get a physical hobby, like work out at the gym, I play hackey sack. Strange, i know, but my kids love it and it really helps.

i have ADHD too and i have the same problem its like you hae 2 problems , you try to control one but the other just gets worse. try to work on them both at the same time. i know this seems bad but dont take medication becuase it will for sure make you crabby and very unfriendly and unsocialble. im 15 andsince i was 10 ive tried at least 10 medications and they threw me into a spiraling depression. i dont recommend just aking the pills . if your doctor or therapist recomends pills ask for other options. i hoped ive helped and i know how you feel\
good luck to you and im glad i could help

Possible resource.

There is no such thing as ADHD. Some people are just different than others. Exercise and jogging help with pent up energy.
