I think the best religion can do is be there to support you (er, whatever that means) and to perhaps reassure you that your depression isn't forever. I do not think that religion in and of itself can "snap" a person out of depression.
I think religion can definitely help.

I hear He does great things.. I did it with meds though. I know people that say god did it for them though... I think it's more if you believe you can get out of it or not.. rent "the Secret".. the law of attraction
I suffered bouts of depression on and off for years and each time I prayed, begged, pleaded for God to send me some relief. None came. I had to go searching for myself.
I asked god to help me with my depression, I ended up so depressed that I had a breakdown and ended up having to go on meds to bring me back, I thank god for the meds in this life. For if we did not have people in this world who cared and found these cures for depression, the world would be in worst shape than it already is. Thank the good lord for these special people, I do.

I didn't read the link, but have read enough about it, depression and anxiety can cause lack of seratonin. It's a chemical imbalance, sure, faith can help to a point, but in many cases, it can just make a person feel more guilty and sad.
"The Lord helps those who help themselves." I learned this through years of giving my problems to God. I finally took the step He wanted and got the medication I needed.
So, the answer to your question is that yes, God can get you out of depression; but you also have to do some of the work.
God helps those who help themselves...some depression is really a chemical imbalance that medication can fix. i went to my minister for counseling but didn't find the physical relief i needed until i went on medication.
I am a big believer in God... and every day I ask him to take this depression from me.. and so far, for two years it hasn't worked..
its not God's fault .. its just that I need to work with him and i dont know how to do that yet
so yes.. he CAN .. doesnt mean he will.. its his decision
