Paralysed by fear? Alone in your house?!

Question: When i am alone in my house at night (I am 16) I get really paranoid about escaped rapists/ burglars etc- and i sit on the couch with the TV turned down really low (I can barely hear it) and the whole night i basically sit there, not wanting to move/ get up, and i just listen for noises. Is this normal? I always think someone is hiding in my wardrobe or in the utiliy room or something.

Well one night i heard a banging noise upstairs, and i literally got so scared, I couldn't move. I tired to get up and my brain was telling my body to move, but it wasn't responding. I was literally paralysed by fear it was terrifying.

Why did this happen and why am i so scared???

Please Help, thankyouu

I sometimes get the same way. What I do is:
~Call a friend or relative
~Blare music the television
~Surf the web
(And pretty much anything else I can think up to distract myself.)
~OR leave the house
*movies
*friend's house
*etc

As for why it happens, you're just paranoid, and don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds. Actually, in our crazy computer age, an increasing number of people suffer from it.

just paranoid, think about times that you were scared like this and nothing happened. think about how many times nothing happens, and how many times something actually happens.

your scared because you are alone, get some kind of weapon to keep close by, i suggest a hand saw, you can get a good grip on it and some one will have a hard time grabbing it from you and it will cut them up bad, not that you will need it, but it will make you less fearful of the bump in the night , things in a house make noise the furnace as the heat ducts cool off ' on a cold nite the wood rafters will creak and so on---ugru

You are scared because of the scary times that we live in.
Make sure the doors and windows are locked.
Talk to a friend on the phone or invite someone over.
Keep lots of lights on in the house.
I was frightened to be alone when I was a teen.
I would go to bed and try to sleep so later on when I woke up my parents would be home from wherever they were.
