Answers: you never see a child whos "ADD" have a hard time watching TV or playing video games...

it sure is its the all time biggest BS disorder of all time hmm this child cant sit and concentrate lets not teach him better concentration skills or better work habits lets put him on a heap of mind altering body numbing drugs that will fix him ---- what a load of sh*t BS is good but we call it NEDS (Not Enough Discipline Syndrone) --- here come the thumbs down from the brain washed believers----

its not ADD is caused by * Brain structure.
* The function of chemicals in the brain that help regulate attention and activity (dopamine and norepinephrine).
* Differences in function of some of the areas of the brain that affect attention and impulse control.

Also, research shows that a mother's use of cigarettes, alcohol, or other drugs during pregnancy may increase the risk for ADD

and by the way TV and video games arent something that the child NEEDs to focus on so its not as hard to do.

ADD is not a BS disorder BUT, it is over diagnosed. The days my students would come in, jump on a desk and start leaping from one desk to another I knew he/she hadn't had their meds. However, many kids are being medicated that shouldn't be and don't need it. Also, some ADD children get what is sometimes called "hyperfocus." I had one student who sat with a coloring sheet and just kept coloring the same spot over and over. This could somewhat explain their ability to play video games and watch tv for long periods of time. As with anyone, ADD people will also focus more on something that interests them.

I guess you never read too much about ADD, huh?

Different tasks and activities stimulate different parts of the brain. Tasks and activities that catch our interest (presumably because we enjoy them) stimulate a different part of the brain than something mundane that does not catch our interest. People with ADD have brains with different "wiring" than those who do not have ADD. Certain parts of the brain are either working faster or slower than they ought to be due to neuropathways that are not functioning as they would in a non-ADD brain.

There are two (or three, depending on your school of thought) types of ADD - hyperactive type (the bouncing off the walls type) and inattentive (where the brain is getting less energy than it should, as opposed to more) and most also say there is a combined type, which is a bit of both.

This is a scientific fact which has been proven in both non-ADD people and ADD people via EEGs (brain scans). But if you don't believe me, I will let you borrow my brain (unmedicated) for a few days and see what you think.

EDIT: LOL, I wonder who gave every person who told you you were wrong a thumbs down?

ADD and ADHD are legitimate disorders, but often are misdiagnosed as being ADD or ADHD when children are simply spoiled and acting out for not getting their way. In a world where parents are afraid to control, teach, and discipline their children, where there are too many parents that have neither the time or interest to raise their children responsibly, children don't learn or develop self-control, and are resultantly often misdiagnosed with some "disorder."

Yes, I have actually seen children who have ADD or ADHD have a hard time watching TV. Playing a video game not so much because their brain is more stimulated and not bored, thus keeping the attention, but definitely yes to the TV part.

So, no to the BS disorder part, but yes to the it can be diagnosed incorrectly.

you need to meet my friends son.........

Not Really and a Child with ADD/ADHD does have problems staying still for any length of tome and TV and Video games are also a problem as their attention span is so limited. Its usually takes medication, therapy and training to help the child get through it and be able to deal with the problem. The Primary cause seems to be bad choices by the parents during pregnancy. ie: smoking, drugs or alcohol causing problems to the growing fetal brain.

Is that your medical opinion?
If you don't see the difference between the attention required to play a video game and the attention required to learn theorems in trigonometry, then there's something wrong with you.
ADD is a legitimate disease and those that suffer from it do not process things in the same way as "normal" people.

No... I have 2 grandchildren one is severely Adhd and the other Is what i'd call mildly hypreactive but severely Add. I guess They can sit and watch tv or play video games simply because it requires very little mental effort and it's something they love to do.Add or Adhd is often accompanied by other behavorial problems or learning disabilities. They tend to be reckless to the casual observer when in fact it is due to lack of impulse control. They dislike tasks requiring mental effort, are very distractible in the classroom or doing homework and are often destructive and easily angered. If you could just see an Adhd child when unmedicated then you would understand.
