What should I say when telling someone..?!

Question: that I think I have depression?

I'm telling my 6th grade teacher (I'm in 7th now) that I'm pretty close to and maintained a bond with since I left her class last year..I already talked to her about having problems at home and such but I never said anything about depression. That was 10 months ago. I've looked depression up on the internet and found that I have many symptoms. What should I say to her? and what should I expect her to do after I tell her?

My parents aren't influential in my life. My dad is an alcoholic who abused my mom. My mom has taken after his short-tempered ways and yells at me ALL the time. I don't have a good relationship with her at all.

well this is a hard situation, because i still don't know how i'm going to come clean and talk about my depression with my teacher. I've gone through the same things have you have been going through for 4 years. I haven't really told anyone but well now two people, and anyone else reading this. There's really no point to tell a doctor because they'll just throw pills at you and that can lead to drug addiction and drug overdose. Don't you want to be happy the natural way.

Just try to open the conversation with hey (whatever your 6th grade teacher's name is) can we talk for a while? Then just say something like i don't know who else to talk to and since i'm closest with you, i thought that i should telll you. I'm not happy, and i have all these problems going on, and I think, or know, that i'm going through depression. then just kind of take it from there. depression sucks i know, but try to surround yourself with the people that you love the most at school.

I don't know, sweetie, because talking to your teacher is a great idea, but you need counseling and IF you were to need meds, you'd prob need our parents' permission. But it can't hurt to ask your teacher anyway

I teach 7th graders, I think you should speak to your counselor. Teachers are limited by the state on the type of assistance they can offer. I know you may have a relationship with your teacher where you might feel comfortable in speaking with her, but if you really want and need help the counselor is the best bet.

just talk to someone. go to your teacher tomorrow! you will feel better. don't do it alone! Do you believe in God? Hang in there! The first step is knowing. Your young. My advice comes from the fact that I grew up an only child and didn't have a relationship with my Mom and my step dad was an alcoholic and it was a rotten upbringing. I married young 18 to get away. luckly I have him and God and two kids.... nothing like how I grew up. There is hope!!! don't let your circumstances control you. talking to someone will help. Trust me.

I feel for you. I don't have the same situation with my parents, but I did go through depression. It's a good idea to talk to your parents. It's hard to go through depression on your own and talking really does help. Also, talking to a pastor helps a lot too. He/She should be able to direct you in a good direction and pray with you. I hope you get better soon. I will keep you in my prayers.
