Do people really self medicate adult adhd with meth?!

Question: My husband has a serious case of adult adhd and is a meth addict! He says it calms him. he has been to doctor after doctor with no sucsess. I know its an excuse, but i wonder if it was his intention in the begining? Also dose anyone know of any adult adhd speicalist in california? he is curently in a drug program, but i think he needs to address the underlying issue.

Sadly, yes, it's true. My husband has ADHD and his doc told him that the med she could put him on is alot like meth. But my hubby had a big prob with meth eons ago, so that wouldn't be a solution. She told him to take omegas (fish oil) everyday instead.

sign me up for adhd!

im a suitable replacement for meth

!

Yeah, I think your husband has found a way to self medicate himself. Its not uncommon to find people with disorders that self medicate using drugs or alcohol. I think he needs to enter a program to kick the meth habit and then find a suitable replacement for the meth.

No meth does not calm, has the exact opposite effect. He is telling you that as an excuse. You really need to help him!

Yeah. Ritalin is a stimulant very similar to meth. It helped to calm my mind. Helped me study, helped me sleep, helped me wake up lowered my anxiety level. In general it minimized all of my ADD symptoms. When I couldn't get that I started taking Ephedra. Not as good but it helped. Now without either I'm much less productive, half awake. half asleep most of the time. Caffeine and energy drinks help a little but not much and have undesirable side affects. I don't consider illegal drugs an option but i understand that cocaine is the calmer of choice among silicon valley over-achievers. People who don't have ADD don't get it and people who do have ADD but have never used Ritalin or other stimulants don't get it.
