I have a question about psychotherapy sessions ...?!

Question: I broke up with someone last june and was, frankly, a mess and hired my therapist to help me navigate through it.

I feel great now but have decided to keep therapy going as a safety net - I am alone a lot of the time and feel that having a therapy session once a week or so will give me a reality check and keep me grounded.

Anyway: sometimes, recently, I don't want to talk about problems because I am in a good mood and she and I just chat.

I get confused that maybe I should leave therapy when it gets like this but on the other hand I want to be anchored by a weekly session for the time being in case I have any relapses/return of depression from the break-up or encounter problems in the future.

What do you guys think on this subject?

how about reducing it to every other week-then 1x a month and see how it goes...

If there is no financial burden involved then you fortunately have the freedom to do exactly what you are doing. There is nothing wrong with keeping grounded for whatever reason. I say don't mess with a good thing. Good Luck!

hmm i can give you what i know! several times i felt ready to leave, like we done everything, and more often than not we hadn't! must importantly tho i couldn't let go of it! eventually my therapist no longer wanted to practice and ended our sessions, obviously giving me a period of time to come to term with it! i thought my whole world had come crashing down! but now 4 months on and i'm doing great! i still have issues, new ones to, but i feel i learnt sooo much from her! and now if i need to i can find someone new or try and work it alone! i know this was more about me, but its the only way i can describe how it was for me, but of course it doesnt mean the same for you!
maybe it will just give you another view on how it may feel!
xx

You should shorten amount of times you go to see a therapist, because you might just be lingering in the past at this point. The best of luck [[:
