Here is the criteria for ADHD: http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/symptom.h...

I just went through a re-diagnosis and the psych did a self evaluation where I answered some questions and he graphed them. He interviewed me and then I took the MMPI-2 (567 multiple choice questions).

When I was diagnosed in 1995, we did the same thing but that doctor sent a questionnaire to my spouse and mother and we also did an computer test for attention.

There is actual a diagnostic tool using nuclear medicine and brain activity mapping that is fairly conclusive but probably overkill (and I'm sure expensive)

If these symptoms are causing problems in your life and you are finding it impossible to engineer them out of your way then you might at least want to talk to a doctor. There are also lots of things that masquerade as ADHD and they will look at that too.

Before you go to doctor .look at your diet.what you eat and drink plays a part.crap food or organic.watch chemicals.

They test for it, but the results are too often "positive", because they make good coin selling you those pills.
Don't confuse ADD with lack of interest. If you can watch a movie without getting up, you don't have any focusing problems.
You might just be really smart, and get bored easily. Taking pills will throw away your creative side.

Ok, let me fill you in on a little secret. ADD/ADHD is just a doctor's way of saying that you were not disciplined as a child. I am not sure how old you and to be honest, I really don't care. I hate it when people put there kids on medicine because they have "ADD". The all natural cure for ADD/ADHD is a swift whipping. You say that you are unorganized, try throwing stuff away. Invest in a folder to keep all of your stuff all neat and tidy. If you have to, write down where you put stuff so you don't lose stuff. Tapping your foot or tapping your fingers is normal. It is a sign of boredom. I tap my foot all the time in my World History class and trust, that class is BORING!!! It is not worth going to the doctor's office because you have to waste the gas to go and get tested and then you have to pay for the doctor's visit and then the unneccesary medicine for your "problem".

There is no test for it. You need to think about why these things are happening. Clearly you're old enough to be on the computer...have these things plagued you since you were a young kid? Are there times when you are calmer and can focus better - - think about when those happen and what that might mean. Lots of people have nervous energy and are disorganized...especially in the teen years when their bodies are essentially hormonally and emotionally crazy.

Do you have trouble focusing on every subject at school...I mean not just bored but random, uncontrollable thoughts after just a few minutes of class? Do you think, say, or do things impulsively...even if it offends people or gets you in trouble because you just don't think about its impact before you do it? Are you doing poorly in school, with friends, etc? All things to think about beyond the initial and obvious ADD symptoms.

Medication for ADD is really nasty stuff...and its not something people without it should be taking. Any ADD treatment should also include a lot of work on behavior...maybe you can work on the behavior first before trying meds.
