This is going to sound crazy, but...?!

Question: Okay, I am dealing with an eating disorder. I am open to and working on recovery. I fear, though, that my parents don't know this, and have been feeding me forcefully while I am asleep. Don't ask why I think this, please. See, this does sound rather psychotic.
How do I ask if they have been doing this?
How can I convince myself they haven't?

Please, no insults.

Essie, you can not be feed in your sleep honey! it just cant happen. you must chew and swallow...in your sleep that would not be possible. so please put it out of your mind. your wrapped up in what you think your body looks like, and alot of people are! try to understand. you don't have to starve yourself to keep your body in shape. you can eat veggies and fruits and stay healthy, and it wont put weight on you. there is nothing wrong with not wanting to gain weight! but you do need to be healthy. you know your skin will start to look dry and pale if you don't at least eat something good for you. try just eating some fruit and veggies.... good luck honey and stay strong. i think you can do this on your own and make some good choices for yourself. I'm me if you want lollynash14

i dont think thats possible you would wake up
and why do you think that?

It is impossible to feed someone when they are sleeping because they would choke. You would have to wake up eat and then go back to sleep. The only way they could do this is by needle or iv. they may be able to pour fluids down slowly like ensure or something. - no solids

you could maybe try and borrow a camera off someone and film yourself for a night, or you could just talk to your parents (I don't mean ask them i mean just hint about it and see what they do) You might just be imagining it because of the eating disorder though

in my opinion, since you are dealing with an eating disorder, the thought of food probably creates anxiety. if you are nervous about recovery, it is possible that your worries are creating many thoughts, even if they don't make sense. it doesn't sound like your parents are doing this, but i can see that dealing with this is difficult for you. good luck to you...don't give up! :)

Okay, you admit to having an eating disorder and are open to working on recovery. You fear that your parents don't know.

Have you talked to them about it and told them that you realize that you have a problem and want to work towards recovery? In my opinion that would be first step.

It is virtually impossible for them to feed you in your sleep without your knowledge. As someone else stated, you would choke and not swallow. The only way would be through a feeding tube and from what you have written, it doesn't sound like you have one.

I believe you need to talk to your parents about your willingness to work on recovery from your eating disorder and also be honest with them that you think they may be feeding you in your sleep, even though you realize that it is not possible. Admit to them that it sounds kind of crazy to you as well and it is bothering you.

Ask your parents for help in getting professional help. There are many therapists, doctors and programs that deal with eating disorders. Your fear of them force feeding you may be a common symptom of an eating disorder. Only a professional has the knowledge and capability to provide you with the help you need. Please get help hon.

It is quite clear that you are suffering and I honestly believe with professional help, you will recover and take your life back.

Take Care

When you say you have an eating disorder, is it Anorexia, bulimia, or a combination of the two?

I suffered severe eating disorders for over 10 years, and have been in recovery for about another 10. At my worst, my mind played tricks on me. I thought people were trying to sabotage my efforts, and plotting against me. I now know this wasn't true, but when you either starve yourself or purge, your brain chemistry really gets messed up. You don't think rationally, really you CAN'T think rationally, you become obsessive, compulsive, you just aren't yourself after a while.

I think it is fantastic that you know you have a problem, that is the first step in getting help. The next step is talking to your parents. Do you trust/ feel closer to one more than the other? Maybe to start off, try talking to which ever parent you feel more bonded with. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself. Eating disorders will take away your quality of living, and can lead to death. Do it for yourself!!

Good luck!
