What is the BEST medication for severe anxiety?!

Question: Thanks any info would be great.

Klonopin is probably your best bet. Klonopin works for about 8 hours and is not sedating, so normally two pills per day. Major side effects from it are very rare. It is more effective than the more commonly prescribed Xanax. In my opinion, Xanax should not be prescribed for severe anxiety in outpatients. Risk from Xanax often outweighs benefit espeacially during long-term use.

Lexapro and similar medications also work for many.
I hardly ever have been anxious since I started taking Lexapro.

marijuana hands down do not take manufactured drugs maryjane can fix any problems

That is a hard question as everyone is different. Each medication can effect each person in a different way. So, what may be best from me (I take Paxil CR) may not be good for you. I would suggest you talking to your doctor and trying out what he/she suggests. It may take a couple of trys to get the best one, but keep working at it. You will find the one that works best for you.

DO NOT TAKE DRUGS.

Your anxiety could be a result of your past. Typically anxiety is seen in people that have abandonment issues. I use the definition "abandonment" loosely.

What are you disconnected from?

severe anxiety? who could be responsible for it apart from yourself ? Go back to YA Q&A for a free cure!

Severe anxiety is a real issue only taken lightly by those that don't suffer from it. Lucky them eh?
anywho, I have to take Xanax on occassion for mine. I have been given a prescription for Lexapro as well...but I have not taken it yet.
I have been going to therapy as well learning how to be more rational with my thoughts. Look into REBT (Rational emotive Behavior Therapy) It has helped me get a grip on things and I've been able to talk myself out of having a few panic attacks.

Best of luck to ya!

Different people need different things I've found.

One of the other answerers said Paxil - well for me Paxil just made everything worst. Personally I've taken many meds and currently I'm on a low dose of seroquel and Affixer.

Best thing is to find a good doc and monitor it closely.

Contact your doctor to find out the best medication that works for you since it will depend upon your family history, the symptoms, your environment, other medical conditions that may exist, and so on.
