How do I know which is better for me?!

Question: I have recently lost my brother to cancer. He was only 27 years old and my best friend. I am having a very difficult time dealing with my loss.

I am looking for a psychologist or a psychiatrist to go to for help. I am not sure which one is more suitable for me. How do I figure out which to go to? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Personally I would suggest a psychologist at first because it seems that your depression at this point is "situational" because your brother died. "Situational depression is generally understood to be reactive to some unusually stressful event such as grief related to death, <snip> "

A psychologist can provide counseling, get you into a grief support group if you want and if he/she feels that your depression is in need of medications, they are able to refer you to a psychiatrist for further evaluation, diagnosis and medications.

The link below describes the different types of depression as well as treatments.

I hope this helps you. I'm really glad to see that you are seeking help. It is a first step in recovery. Take care!

Hugs,

Michelle

Idk, but I really wanna say goodluck!!!

i suggest that you go to a psychiatrist, on my personal assestment you are really depressed, btw, do you have depressed moods for 2 weeks straight? if you're from the phils. i can recommend you to a couple of best psychiatrists...
