I need opinions?!

Question: I think I'm bi-polar, but i'm not desperately wanting to label myself. I see a psychologist because of self harm and attempted suicide. I have to go to the doctors this week cause i have really dry skin and i was thinking that this could be a perfect opportunity to ask about medication. I just want to go a day feeling normal. Yesterday i was hyper for hours then i went into my room and just felt so depressed, i sat and cryed for ages. I'm sick of feeling this way. Do you think meds would be a good idea? Can you suggest any which wont make me gain weight as i already have some kind of food disorder. I hardly eat and when i do i make myself sick. Thanks for your answers x

also... my psychologist is wanting to wind down our sessions cause she thinks im doing very well. she keeps telling me there's not much more she can do to help me

My bf is manic-depressive (bi-polar), & she is alot like you, with the intense hyper mania 1 minute, then the crashing lows the next. She has been on meds most of her life, & she is a funny crazy awesome person to be around. But when she goes off her meds, she will work herself into a "frenzy", & then be depressed for weeks, months on end. If you are seeing a psychologist, & telling them that you're "fine", or that you are progressing when you aren't, then doesn't that just defeat the purpose of getting help? You are only doing yourself a disservice, by acting like you're fine when you're not. I also struggled with an eating disorder when I was a teen too. I am only starting to realize now that my bulemia was a cryout for unconditional love & attention. This was my way of doing it, because I didn't know any alternative at the time. I know now that the bulemia was a manifestation of more deeper issues, that I am now learning how to cope with.
Please talk to your physc about this ok? Tell them you are NOT FINE. If bi-polar goes untreated you can literally start to go insane, & bulemia will eventually KILL you. So stop the self-loathing & abuse & get the help that you DESERVE. Please hun, you have to start caring about yourself..:) I'm rootin' for ya, BE STRONG!!! ;) XOXOXO

get yourself on medication. talk to your therapist about it. it is so much more common than you may think. day by day. things really can get better if you get help.

Well does your psychologist know about your mood swings? If she does she should have referred you to a psychiatrist. Tell your doctor about this and see what he or she says. As for meds only a psychiatrist can decide which ones will work best for you.

Try talking this stuff out with a friend or family member because, with my experience, psychologists can't always help the way you wish they could. There is an anti-depressant I know which is wellbutrin. It can suppress appetite and even make you lose 5 pounds! But, you should consider getting further help for your food disorder. When left alone, it can spiral out of control and interfere and even ruin your personal and social life. Not to mention ones appearance. Remember, just do what you truly think will make you happy again. x
