Why do we often regress in our dreams?!

Question: For example I moved house four years ago but most of my dreams are still set in the old house. Also I am 20 but still have dreams of being at school.

This is exactly the same thing that is happening to me. I am 16, but i moved 3 years ago from my old home. i have NEVER EVER in these 3 years EVER had a SINGLE dream set in my present house or town. all of them occur somewhere else or at my old house..which is...ok i guess..because i miss my old house...but at the same time i want to move on from it..but the dreams set me back so it's harder for me to forget the past.

Our subconscious mind trys sometimes to fix situations that are unresolved or where we were before.

some times people dream about the past if they have recently
lost a loved one or pet

Hello,

(ANS) Some of the reasons for this are quite logical & rational in part. No.1 If you have lived in the same place for a long time, you will build up a very strong or solid association with that place i.e. your old home.

No.2 Given that your only 20 years old my guess is that you've probably spent the greater proportion of your life & growing up in that one house so this one house will hold the biggest number of memories or associations for you.

No.3 Dreaming of your old house is about remembering happier times perhaps, a time & place were you felt happiest or safest, etc.

No.4 Wanting to regress is probably because you perhaps feel abit vulnerable emotionally right now, perhaps recall how it felt to be like that child you once were. In the dream you can return and remember how it felt to be that child. Of course children get their needs looked after in a less complicated way than when we are adults.

No.5 Dreaming of school could have numerous different meanings but without knowing more information about the dream and about you its hard for me to interpret a clearer meaning to this dream.

Kind Regards Ivan

Me too!!!
I am 21 and all of my dreams are set at the house I lived in until I was 12, and my primary school. My dad reckons it's because in my head, that is my home. I guess you regress to a time when you were safest, because you didn't have to make decisions for yourself, and could rely on the security of being a child. A lot has happened for me since then, and I've spent much of my time at my new house being depressed, so I figure that's my escape.

I think maybe you could also go back there to resolve the unresolved. If there is still something in your past you have not dealt with, your subconscious will keep dragging you back there kicking and screaming until you acknowledge it and put it right.

I guess there can be good or bad reasons for it.
