Just to keep you in balance...The chances of your child being perfectly normal all her life are really great! Don't worry about it any more than if the father had a heart attack. It's good to know the facts in case anything unusual comes up in the future, but chances are good that nothing ever will. My brother-in-law has it and nobody else in the family has shown any signs of it, though I do think my wife is a bit wiggy at times, but don't all husbands think that. ;)

YES. you can do nothing and don't need to either. it runs in the family and if the trouble starts, you can take your child to the doctor like any other mother. There is a test they can do for diagnosis and it is taking a MRI of the brain. they will see if the horns that contain fluid in the brain are consistent with those of someone who has schizophrenia. there is no need to do it now cuz it may not show up until later and then the symptoms will show as well and you will know. as long as you watch for mood changes and aggression. reports that she is hearing noises or voices...until then there is nothing to worry about. Do not raise this child in fear or tell your child that you suspect this or they will be afraid. being young is a very special and sweet time. being a teen is hard enough. just pull your head together and deal with what is present. chances are this will never happen to your child!
Many people become mentally ill and schizophrenic from abuse or trauma too and this is not genetic!

A tendency towards mental illness is genetic. But that doesn't mean that everyone with a mentally ill family member gets a mental illness, or that no-one without a mentally ill family member gets a mental illness.

Your daughter is more at risk of schizophrenia than someone who's parent is not schizophrenic. But that doesn't mean she's definitely going to get it. Keep an eye out for any unusual behaviour, but don't be overly concerned.

In runs in my Family also, my mom had it and so does my youngest sister. She got it when she was around 8 or 9, but the rest of us are fine so far... my oldest sister is 22 right now with no symptoms. Just try to watch out for symptoms from your daughter.

Don't do anything. And don't tell her in case it makes her worry (I'm sure you wouldn't anyway).

There's nothing to worry about unless she shows symptoms. You'll know if she's got it - it's not something you can ignore or miss.

There is a genetic component but it's quite small. And overall Schizophrenia is quite a rare mental illness (compare 1% to 20% for depression). Average age of onset is 25 for females and the prognosis for females is much better than for males.

Yes schizorphrenia runs in your family, and you're child proberbly is at risk. There is nothing much you can do, unless your child shows symptoms of Schizphrenia.
But there is a possiblity at the same time that you're child may not have inherited the mental illness.

IF your child has it, then she wont begin to show when she is 11. When she is older yes.
If your child starts to show symptoms then you take her to the doctors and explain to him/her that you think she may have it and it does run in the family.

Hope i've helped,

Yes, schizophrenia tends to run in the family. And, your daughter has around a 1 in 5 chance of developing the disease. But its only PARTLY genetic so dont worry too much.

It seems to be that people with a schizophrenic parent inherit a predisposition towards the condition. But an environmental stimulus (eg. severe stress or recreational drugs) is needed to trigger it. So... i wouldnt worry too much as IF she has inherited it, she may never even have the right 'trigger'.

But im afraid theres nothing u can do about it; just keep an eye out for any symptoms. She may never show any, however is she does, take her to the doctor and it can be diagnosed and she will be helped.

ABSOLUTELY---It is a genetic deformity in the DNA & RNA which control the output and manufafturing of Dopamine and Triamine.

Have your child tested annually because in may not show up until the late teens or early twenties.
