Xanax Withdrawal?!

Question: I've been taking .25mgs. of xanax everyday for the last 7 months and have decided that I no longer want to be a slave to this drug so I have started weaning myself off of it by taking it everyother day and then every couple of days. I've heard you can die from stopping this, I haven't taken any in 4 days and the only negative effect it's having is I'm more anxious, but that could be because I can't stop thinking about how it can kill you. my question is, how long does it take to start feeling withdrawal effects from this medicine and what are some things I should expect to see....

serious answers only please....thanks

You were on a low dose. If its been 4 days and you feel fine more then likely you will be fine. I think that if you are on a high dose or abusing it then the withdrawls could harm you. Weaning was a good idea. Good Luck!!! But dont suffer. Xanax is not a medication you HAVE to take everyday. I take it only when I need it or I know that I will need it. Like when I go somewhere that there are going to be a lot of people or I know I'm going to feel anxious.

you should not wean yourself on your own discuss this with your doctor so he can prescribe you medication to wean you off.as you can get sick by doing this on your own.

This is a very serious drug and you need to ask a pharmacist, really they could tell you for sure. My mother has been addicted to it for 20 years, I fear it may kill her because she won't stop.

I have just gotten out of a rehab center, because I am a narcotics addict, plus I also took Xanax. I found that you can die from trying to stop Xanax. Actually Xanax is the hardest drug to come down from. It can cause seizures and be fatal if not done correctly. It also takes longer to completely withdrawal from Xanax than any other drug. It can take up to as much as 14 days to have the effects of the withdrawal completely out of your system. I would advise you to check with you physician to see if there is some place or some one who could help monitor you until you are completely free from this drug.
