I'm 12 years old and I started having a minor stutter today! Help?!

Question: when I was 7 years old I started having a minor stutter. it always comes and goes. now i'm in 7th grade and it comes and goes. but all last week and today was spring break. And my stutter was completely gone. no matter how hard i tried, i couldn't stutter. I was so happy because I finally thought my stuttering was gone. I've been having a hard time this year because all my teachers require me and my classmates to read out loud everyday to the class.

tomorrow i start school again, and today i was reading out loud like any other day (i read aloud for 15 minutes since i started stuttering)
and i started to stutter! right now I am so depressed. I'm crying right now. when i confide in my mom about this situation she yells at me and says it's crazy.

none of my relatives stutter, and i never was when i was born.
i'm very bright, and none of my friends really care. they think I'm really funny (not my stutter but my remarks and jokesS)

please help

Stuttering is not a life sentence even though it feels that way. It just makes you more sensitive in front of people - especially your peers. With a trained speech therapist - you can overcome this. Most people grow out of it or it slows down as you get older. I have a brother who stuttered a lot as a child, now he is almost 40 and rarely stutters. Just be patient with yourself. It is a part of yourself that you need to accept - just like if you had a broken leg - you have to be patient until it heals.

i would just try to talk slower...i tend to stutter if i talk to fast or get too excited...just calm down and it should all just flow smoothly.

do any of your friends stutter cos. one of my friends stuttters sometimes and i had hanging out with them alot and just statrted to stutter not very often but sometimes. just wait and see it mite go away

well I cant help with the stutter but I wanted to say that your anxiety over stuttering and your frustration is completely normal. You are not crazy to be upset about it. People are nervous about reading or talking in public to begin with! I would suggest trying to relax. Just know that if you do or dont stutter only losers will judge you for it and you dont need their approval anyway. Good luck

When you check out The Stuttering Foundation of America, look under the brochures section for the brochure written for teachers. Print one out and take it to your teacher(s) and ask them to help you since you stutter.

Trying not to stutter will make it worse! Everyone who stutters has good days and bad days. When you are tired or under stress are times that it will most likely get worse.
