How can I get through school with my bipolar depression?!

Question: I just cant handle it!

Answers: I just cant handle it!

Hi, I have a step brother who has bipolar so I know a little bit about this.

Here are some tips in how to deal with things.

1. Take your medication. Talk to your doctor and get put on a medication that will help control your condition.

2. Eat healthy foods, and not any foods that will change the chemical balance in your body. Talk to your doctor and a nutrition to ensure you have a healthy diet and to discard foods that can trigger off your bipolar.

note: (If you had been diagnosed with diabetes, you would've been given a diet and literature on nutrition and exercise. Hopefully, you are working with a psychiatrist who has done exactly that, as it relates to your bipolar disorder. There are many "triggers" that can set an episode of cycling into motion. Common triggers can include an irregular schedule or routine and any dramatic change. It can be brought on by a death, moving into a new home, or any unexpected or extreme changes. Keep yourself healthy by establishing a daily routine that allows for some down time (even 15 minutes per day to relax can make a difference) and a regular sleep pattern. Make sure your diet is high in vitamins and minerals and low on sugar, fat, and artificial ingredients.

3. Make time to exercise at least 3 times per week. This type of balanced lifestyle encourages a chemical balance in the brain. ) -

4.
Know your moods: Make a Mood chart to keep track of how you are feeling and what is currently going on in your life.

5.
Once you know your moods you'll be able to know what sets you off and what helps to keep you calm.

6.
Make a list of things that you enjoy doing to help distract yourself when you know you are about to have a change in mood. Examples of these are; reading, writing, watching a movie, exercising, walking, listening to music and drawing.

Once you've done your mood charting for awhile you will be able to tell people when you are either going into a depressive state or a manic state so that they can be prepared to either help you or try to leave you alone.

7. Try and find 15-20 mins a day at home, to relax and have some "time out". Sometimes just relaxing and being in a non stressful environment can make a difference.

8. If you have a major trigger episode, see your doctor immediately or go to the hospital. If you need help then SEEK it. It is very important.

To help deal with bipolar at school. You need to have a talk with your teachers and the school counsellor that you have the condition so at least they "understand" if you have a trigger.

Try making a routine that you do every day at school, and follow this. This will help as routine takes your mind off "thinking" about things and distracts you.

If you have a trigger, excuse yourself and go and see the school counsellor or go to the bathroom to spend time alone for awhile.

You need to set up a system with your school, that if you have a trigger, you have a relaxed coping area to deal with it.

My best advise is: Knowledge is power.

Read up EVERYWHERE on bipolar. Books, videos, internet sites....everything.

The more knowledge you have, combined with medication...and the better you are able to control it.

Good luck

Hugs

Could you take some time to get properly stabilized and then return to school?

Hi Gene I was Bipolar all of my life and didn't know it.
I was always trying to figure out why I didn't get along with others, and chose to stay alone
I was angry and depressed all the damn time.
it was hard and it sucked,
today I still am alone.
but meds have helped comfort the pain that I have dealt with
all of my life
its hard being bipolar and it is a disorder that still baffles
doctors today, but its the lonesome souls that have it that suffer
I honestly wished that there was a cure for this devastating
disease and that people who suffer from this would acutely
know what it is like to live a normal life, for what that is I don't know
but there is such a thing, as a normal life
damn it its out there and I for one am gonna find it,
to find peace of mind, and happyness, and learn to live agean.

Are you on meds? If so continue taking them and let you doctor know about the worsening of your depression. If not talk to a doctor to see what is the best treatment plan for you.

Try to get out when depressed it is so hard to move and do much of anything but try to get out at least every day.

Exercise and take vitamins this will help you regulate your body.

If it still seems to much to handle even after you talked to a professional decide if you want to take a break and go back next semester or try to stick out the semester and see what may come of it.

or stop complaining i am ADHD and bipolar and i do just fine through school and i have friends who are bipolar who also do fine stop trying to make people feel bad for you
