Anyone else on Prozac and is losing weight?!

Question: I have been slighly overweight after two kids. I started low dosage of prozac and lost 16 pounds in 2 months. I have been researching this further and heard they sometimes use prozac off label for obese patients.

Have you had this experience? Tell me about it.

Prozac has some stimulant qualities and for some people, it causes weight loss. Chemicals affect us all differently, because our bodies are different.

Edit: Whoever gave me the thumbs down for taking the time to help a stranger on the internet, I wish for you a peace in your heart that may currently elude you.

the first time I was on prozac I had the exact same effect and was very happy with it. second time round it did not work that way for me. take care good luck

No

My best friend is on prozac and she's soo skinny, she lost alot of weight.

i did the same think wen i was in the hospital, for med change and adjustment i was put on Prozac 16 teen years ago it may most people nervous ,but it made me lose weight, but be careful after awhile it makes you feel better , and than you feel hungry all the time and i gained my weight back and than some,,

All I know is that when I started Welbutrin XL I lost over 25 pounds within 5 mos. so I think that all of those types of drugs do that. Good Luck with everything.

Yes! But right now I am on Prozac + another drug that makes you GAIN weight--DANG! Good luck and enjoy it while its lasts.

I wish...! All I found was it can drop your appitite, but then I just snack a lot more so it's not really helped there. Think it actually increased cravings for sugar and fat, so it's fixing my head and wrecking my six-pack. :)

I guess if you don't get that side of the effect the yeah you'll lose weight for sure.

As for using it on obese patients - whether it's the actual diet effect or simply as an anti-depressent I don't know as it might help with things like self-esteme issues that can be the cause of overeating.

I've lost weight on some meds, gained it on others. It sounds like those first few pounds lost was welcome, but the question is where is your weight now? What's your body-mass index (BMI)? How does this compare to your "normal" weight? 16lbs in 2 months is pretty fast. Depending on where your weight is now, and at what rate it continues to change, you may want to take a look at your prozac and dosage. Best thing I can tell you is to report everything including how you feel to your doctor and figure out what to do about it.

Instead of Prozac or any other drugs, exercising is the right thing to do. Unless it's a very difficult case, exercising, as running, is much more better than any drugs, no side effects, or better saying, wonderful side effects ( sleeping as a rock, health improver, sex drive increase, blood pressure control,... ) If you can't run, try walking or swimming, and weight lifting, the effects are also great and gradually substitute your Prozac for something really natural.
