For those with Bipolar Disorder, I would like to hear your response to this.?!

Question: http://www.youtube.com/user/bipolarorwak...

I am asking out of my own interest as well as I was recommended by my doctor to get a psychiatric assessment for Bipolar Disorder. I did not feel right or good about it so I didn't. Years down the track - I am very glad.

I am open to your genuine thoughts on this.

Unfortunately my internet speed has been reduced dramatically as I have gone over my 20G download limit for the month so I was unable to watch the movie.... Ill give you my thoughts and experiences anyway...

Anti-depressants have their place - its for people with depression - people with bipolar have a different condition - I am currently coming off anti-depressants as they were actually causing my mania to a degree - I know this as I stopped taking them cold turkey on the advice of a GP and I had really bad withdrawls so went back on them a few days later with the intention of seeing a psychiatrist - when I went back on them I became a lot more manic than usual - I have now seen the psychiatrist who has diagnosed me bipolar type II and is currently having me taper off the anti-depressants and Im then going to start mood stabilizing drugs which are not anti depressants.

I spent many years (the last 18 years) with depression and thats all it was but they didnt always work I would have to go higher and higher in dose and eventually I would just stop and would feel either better for it for up to a couple of years at a time or I would feel worse and try another anti depressant but I didnt have any manic periods but did spend money like it was going out of fashion - it was just never picked up on. OH I also had panic attacks and anxiety attacks (so it really was hard to say no thats bipolar until the manic phases started about 6 months ago)

Im glad I have the correct diagnoses now and so now I can move on and learn how to manage it with the help of my Drs. Not being able to see the video I cant really comment but do wonder why you are glad you never went to see if you had bipolar or not - anti-depressants these days isnt normally prescribed for bipolar - mood stabilisers are prescribed.

honestly i dont want to be labeled an illness but i am. you shouldnt let this illness get you down and for damn sure let it control you. talk to others like me and we can help out. the thing that helps me is stay posative and motivated. keep your headup and dont worry about set abcks because you will take two steps forward for every one step back
