Why do i fear leaving my house and interacting with people?!

Question: I'm not sure why i have this problem, but i get really nervous and scared just thinking about leaving the house and going somewhere.

An example of this is just today my mom asked me to help her take a bunch of bottles down to a bottle depot. I instantly felt nervous or whatever at the thought of doing that.

Is this just a stupid problem thats all in my head that i can just get over, or do i need to get medication or something?

Sounds like a form of social anxiety, or even agoraphobia (a disorder when you're afraid to leave your home). I'd go see your doctor as these are disorders and can be treated. Left untreated it can get a lot worse.

you just need to get out of the house and stop creepin around on yahoo answers! haha It's all in your head!

i think it's just all in your head. but this is just my opinion.
i think your just scared of what people is gonna think about you. just go somewhere, whether your scared or nervous. just do it. i'm sure if you do, you won't me scared nor nervous anymore.

friend this a very common problem, it only happens when u think about the people, what would the people think about u. these typr of question always surrounds u when some one say's u to go out side. u dont get feared from outside u fear only and only from the people of outside. to get rid of these things u have to ignore ur random thoughts, ignore that thing which produces fear in u. only think let them watch, any try to say every time when u go out 'i am not afraid of any thing, im only afraid of GOD'. and try to give ur sometime, try to spend some time alone. and make plans to overcome ur weaknessess like solving a puzzle. it would definately make u feel better.

It is a common phobia or fear. Talk with a psychiatrist. There are medications and therapy that do work. Good luck.

you might be on the same boat. i have social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and agoraphobia.

it is not a stupid problem. i wish you that you are none of the above but it doesn't hurt having a psychologist screen you out.

i was like you and i thought it was just a phase but over the years became worse. specially after traumatic people events. all my life i did have the condition. i just didn't know there were diagnosis for them.

but take heed. i'm against meds specially benzo. they leave you mentally retarded. there are dangerous contrary to what doctors say. you don't want to get cognitively impaired specially in schooling age.

How would these idiots know if you need medication?

You are telling us about one symptom of a fear called agoraphobia, literally "fear of the marketplace". Try to observe if this is a fear you have before you go, or when you are out in public as well. Is it being out of your home, or is it truly interacting with people? A lot of times people fear leaving home because they will find themselves in a position where escape is difficult or embarrassing.

There could also be less psychological and more physical concerns- do you live in a dangerous neighborhood? Is the possibility of being attacked a real one? Do your friends fear the neighborhood?

Agoraphobia (IF that is what you have) responds to what is referred to as "in vivo exposure" or a behavioral talk therapy. You don't need to be on medication.

And to Gavin- "it's all in your head" is not a solution. EVERYTHING is all in your head, and the fact that it is in your head doesn't mean the problem is solved. Try going for a week without your head, which in your case, has probably been the case.

Its called Agoraphobia. Fear of going out and meeting others. You may have some repressed Fears, PTSD or something that is triggering this fear. I'd suggest you talk to a Therapist and see if you can find the triggers and process through the issues. You need to be able to live your life free of these fears.
