Post traumatic stress?!

Question: I'm 26 years old and I had a spantaneous pneumothorax about two months ago. I have had a painful operation and there was a point at which I thought I might probably die. Although my life is almost back to normal and the chance of my problem reoccuring is only 1-5%, I still feel very insecure from time to time, worrying about my health in the future. I have also had sleep paralysis 5 times in 6 weeks (it had only occured to me 3-4 times in my whole life before the surgery) and have bad dreams occasionally. I have also come to realize life is very fragile and sometimes I'll think about what if some sort of accident happens. I have always been a pessimistic person because I often get ill even if I'm still young and I have become even more pessimistic because of the surgery. How can I overcome this fear and become a happier person?

whenever i feel a bout of self pity coming, i think of people less fortunate than me.
also neuro linguistic programming is supposed to be a big help in dealing with negative thoughts.

Ironically, pessimists live longer than optimists. Happy people don't live longer than sad people.

um, think that you may as well live life to the fullest because you may die soon anyway? makes a positive of a negative..
