A Question about my problems?!

Question: I was on Methadone for 3 years and I slowly detoxed myself off.The Last time I did any methadone was my last day at the clintic on Thanksgiving 07.I was doing fine for about two weeks then,I started to think about all of the messed up things I used to do when I was on Heroin. And it really got to me bad.I found and old bottle of paxil about 30 days worth and I started to take one a day, they made me feel alittle bit better, but then I ran out. After that happend to me I didn't leave the house for about a week.A friend of mine showed up at my house and told me i need to get out.He gave me some blue Xanax and told me to take one it would make me feel better, and it did I am now out doing things I havn't done in years and they make me feel 100% better.I have been taking Xanax 3 times a day now for 3 weeks now.And I feel like a whole new person.I just wanted to see what someone in the med field has to say about me doing this.

Be very careful with both of these drugs. Xanax can cause physical dependence, and paxil is also highly addictive. Both of those are prescription medications and should be taking them under the supervision of a doctor. Since they are helping you, you may need an antidepressant or anti-anxiety. Go see your family doctor, and describe your spell of agoraphobia (not leaving the house). He can help you find a medication that helps, but is less addictive. I have had a family doctor prescribe anti-anxiety or anti-depressant drugs on several occasions. It's no big deal. There are some types of medications that are available for as little as $4 a month. It's much easier to just drop by your grocery store pharmacy to pick up your meds, and cheaper than buying them on the street. Stick with a single prescription, and don't experiment with other things at the same time. You could get a dangerous drug interaction. Many of those drugs don't reach peak effectiveness until you've taken them regularly for a few weeks, so you could get a lot more benefit out of them if you get a prescription and take it regularly.

Best of luck!!

I just want to say well done you! I dont know what the drug is or anything, but Im glad youre sorting out your problkmes. theres ALWAYS light at the end of the tunnel!xxx

im not in the med field, just wanted to say well done for helping yaself!

When coming off of any drug, it's always easier to find something in subsititue. Blue xanax= 1mg each so you are taking 3 mg a day. To an average person, that's enough to knock anyone out if it's not in their system. Xanax is prescribed for anxiety. It does sound however, that it has helped you for the better, but I would seek medical advice because they may have a better suggestion for you. I am not a doctor, but I have been in similar situations as you. Good Luck.

Firstly I hope your taking the Xanax under medical care now - if your not seeing a Dr - see one - Xanax is highly addictive and Im affraid that when the pack runs out if your not seeing someone about it your going to hit bottom again - Xanax certainly has its place and it sounds like it might be the drug for you but please please please see a Dr and have it actually prescribed for you - if you do wish to stop taking it you need to ween slowly off it - much like I imagine you did with the methadone you should definately not stop taking it cold turkey because you have run out or what ever as the withdrawls are not usually that pretty with Xanax

First congratulations on getting yourself cleaned up...My advice would be if the Xanax is making you feel better, go see a doctor and explain that you have put yourself on this med and you feel it is helping you sort out your issues and control your drug addiction. I do think you need to go to the doctor so you are prescribed an appropriate dose. I am not sure you should have to take Xanax three times a day...I just would hate to see you get addicted to a prescription drug now that you have come so far...Go to the doctor and do things right, so you can be monitored...

seems like high Xanax dependence to me. see a doctor about this and try cutting back to once a day gradually. as for the underlying condition - anxiety - explore other way of dealing with it so you don't have to rely so much on drugs. We're often dealt a bum deal genetically and in the family we get, and if we absolutely must use drugs to get thru life, so be it, but minimal levels is my philosophy.

Do you have a prescription for them? If not get your Doctor to write you one because it seems you have found something that works for you.
Good luck and glad you are doing better sweety.
