Bipolar disorder in children?!
Question: Does anyone have any experience with this disorder in children? My son, who is 8, was diagnosed with ADHD about 3 years ago, but he doesn't show signs of it at all, at home or at school. He does have awful mood swings that happen in milliseconds, and is extremely emotional. I'm very concerned. I'm in the process of seeking a psychiatrist, but in the meantime, I'm looking for more information on this disorder in children, behaviors you may have observed.

There is one kid that I know of that has it. Unfortunately I can't tell you much, because I don't see the kid often. I do know he is about 8, takes medication, and his mom also is bipolar. I didn't know children could have the disorder before I heard he had it. It is highly genetic if it emerges at that age. The drugs for bipolar can be very tough on the younger ones especially, but they are often necessary. Good luck.
