Do you think i need to talk to someone?!

Question: Im 16 and i have suicidal thoughts all the time! The thing is i dont want to kill myself. But i cant stop the thoughts! I cant talk to my parents. I just cant thats a long story, they would make it worse! My school counselor knows something is up and wants me to tell her. Im so scared to. I dont know what she'll do. She will probably call my mom. Which will make it worse. Should i talk to her and tell her? It will feel good to let it out, but i dont thinl she really can help. All she can do is tell my mom who will make it worse. So im not sure what to do?! Im scared though! I dont know who i am anymore! Thanks

Ask your school counselor what the confidentiality rules are. When does she have to share what you told her? And with whom? Ask her what subjects the two of you can discuss without your parents knowledge and which things she would have to inform your parents, the police or social services.

I don't know whether she has to tell your parents, but she may have to tell someone about suicidal thoughts. In my state, she may be obligated to call social services.

I think you should talk to your counselor and share some of your problems and see if that makes you feel better. If you say that you are depressed, your counselor will ask you about suicidal thoughts as competent counselors must ask that question. The next question is whether you have a suicide plan.

If you feel that it would be best to head off questions like that, you can say that you don't want to kill yourself, but you are unhappy with your life and you don't know how to improve things or something to that effect.

You probably need anti-depressants and your parents are the ones who would take you to the doctor's office, so she might want to inform your parents. Many people also advise therapy which your parents would take you to.

I understand what you are going through as I had a similar experience. I was able to get out of it by getting a job. I didn't like my home or my school and having a job made all the difference for me. However, everyone is different and probably needs a different solution. My mother noticed that I slept a lot and she took me to an internist who said since I didn't fight with my brother and sister, there was nothing wrong with me. Her mother had died from an overdose of pills. Yet, no one put everything together and no one was able to do anything for me.

As you decide what you should do, why don't you check out some of the websites on depression. Amazon has some books on depression and you can look inside some of them. Also your school library or your public library may have books on depression. Most public libraries have access to online research. All you do is locate your library web site, type in your card number and select research. Perhaps if you know more about depression, you will be able to do what is in your best interest.

At 18, your parents don't need to be involved, so you might choose to do something else at that point.

Talk to whoever you trust. but do talk to someone ..

Can you talk to your doctor? You may need antidepressants.

Is there another caring adult in your life you can talk to?

As for your counselor, ask her directly what she has to keep confidential and what she doesn't. That way you'll know.

If it's so bad that telling your parents would make it worse, someone needs to know that.

You can discuss with your church Rev.Father. Pray,Pray and Pray incessantly . God will take care of you child.

I am not sure the school counselor can just call your mom and tell her what you told them. However, if this is something that you know they can legally do, then you need to be talking to your mom anyway.
As a mom, I can tell you that I would rather my daughter came to me about these thoughts so we could get some help for her.

I think you should definitely find a close friend or someone you feel completely comfortable with to talk to. Sharing these feelings will help minimize them.
Also, I'm reading a book called The Burn Journals by Brent Runyon. It's a true story about a boy that caught himself on fire and lived. It then talks about how precious life is to him. I really think you might like it. I hope this helps!
