Hi hon...

I know exactly where you're coming from....lol

Last month I sold my big house and really downsized. I got rid of lots of stuff. This was difficult for me at first as I am a chronic pack rat, but as I got into it I started to feel liberated knowing my life would be so much simpler. I would find a dried flower from a boyfriend in Grade 2 and think LET IT GO....I love that expression now...I think I will have it tattooed somehere....lol.

As I moved from a 5 bedroom house to a 2 bdrm mobile home most of the furniture I had previously would not fit in my new home so I gave it out and figured I would get new stuff. So I was left with boxes mostly. As we started to move them and they filled completely my little house I thought...YIKES!!!!.

I am walking sideways and squeezing through paths to my computer, a chair which I can sit in when not at my computer...and of course my bed...I go there often and throw a cold cloth on my head....or light a candle and read...lol. Most days/nights when I come in I like you feel overwhelmed and may sort through a box or two, other times I grab a coffee and just sit thinking Bless my mess!!!!!

You are doing it the right way though, painting, flooring etc. Then when you do unpack and get things sorted you will have your house the way you want it. For me some things were done before I moved in but now others will have to wait until I get totally unpacked and that is ok.

Maybe you should adopt the LET IT GO philosophy...lol...and know that eventually you will have your new home the way you like it. Sometimes when I feel too overwhelmed I will go out, either walk my dog or go windowshopping looking at furniture. This seems to pump me up a bit and I come home and maybe go through 4 or 5 boxes....lol.

Also too the help of friends or family can be great. Last weekend I bought a case of beer and my son came over and helped. We got quite a bit done that day and he laughed at me, some of the stuff I had held on to for so many years.

So moving has its ups and downs, kinda like a rollercoaster which I am not really fond of....but I know at the end of the day this ride will be worth it and it will be for you too!!!!!

Now as I am slowly unpacking I will think of you, and know that I am not alone...lol...neither are you.

Anywho I hope some of what I have babbled has helped you and remember Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff!!!! lol :-)

Take care

I know what you mean.... I was an army brat, so we moved all the time. My mother was an expert at setting up a house quickly, and what she did was to do one room at a time.

She always started with the kitchen first, since it was most important to have functioning first... then she would do the bathrooms, living room, dining room, bedrooms, etc....

She left the smaller things for last, like the linen closet and out of season clothing, things that had to go into storage, etc...

By doing one specific task each day she had the whole house put together in about a week, and she wasn't exhausted (not to mention my sister and I were in charge of our own rooms after school).

Just pace yourself. Do a little at a time - your house doesn't have to be done TODAY :)

I think you should give yourself a break and try not to be so hard on yourself. There is no magic time frame that says you must get your house in order by this date. However, if it's really bothering you that you're behind, how about setting a goal? Choose a date on the calendar, circle it in red or whatever and get your hiney in gear. Do a little each day until you start to see some semblance of order. Moving into a new house (especially with all that work you just did) is exhausting. You're probably still adjusting to the whole process and that's perfectly normal. It took me a good year before I felt like my house was totally unpacked and straightened out. Even then I changed curtains and paint colors 3 or 4 times. Have a cup of coffee or your favorite tea and just sit down and breathe. It's ok if it's not all done in one weekend. It will get done. And congrats on your new place!

Work on one room at a time. When completed, unpack boxes for that room. Move on to next room and so on.

Take your time.

If you are redoing the house it is better that you don't totally unpack. At this point unpacking would be pointless if you keep having to move things to get to the house projects.

You are doing the right thing! and I am sure you are going a great job! Hopefully it wont take too much longer to get these projects finished, and as a room is completed you can unpack the things that go there and soon you will feel right at home!.

I would try to finish a room at a time, that way I would have at least one room that is 'HOME' . I'm always eager to get everything in its place and to be able to see my accomplishments. I love to decorate, and moving or remodeling a room gives you a great feeling.

Good Luck and don't let it get you over welmed. You will get threw this and the finished project will be great!
