How do you experience emotional pain?!

Question: getting upset is not ususual. feeling anxious is common too. or being depressed. or angry. or lonely. or crying, or binging, or losing one's appetite.

but what's behind the labels we use for moods, and what's behind the behaviors? for instance, do people have a headache, and if so, is it a pressure headache to the temples, or dizziness? do you feel unable to function at all, and if so, is it due to lack of energy or overwhelming gravity?

i experience a tremendous agitation, perhaps even panic, in my chest - i can attribute that to all sorts of things. but i think the particularities of the experience are interesting, and wonder if others can share about their particular experiences of emotional pain.

take your time, i don't expect the first impulse-answers to go particularly deep.
