INSOMNIA: You can't shut your mind off. Instead, put your mind in a position where it wants to shut itself off. ~~~~~ See insomnia treatments, in section 3, at ezy build, below. Use one of the relaxation methods, in bed, after lights out, on pages 2, 11, 2.c, or 2.i, but they can take some time to learn, (progressive muscular relaxation excepted) so learn and become proficient in their use during the day; an alternative is to use the EFT, in section 53, and pages 2.q, and 2.o, saying to yourself: "Even though I currently have a sleep disorder, I deeply and completely accept myself." (or choose your own wording) while you use the acupressure tapping.

Find out which works best for you, in the daylight hours, so you will be prepared, come bedtime. For many people, a good idea is to develop a set "wind down" routine for the last hour before bedtime, so your unconscious mind learns that it is time to put thinking aside, and prepare for mindfulness, (awareness, without cogitation/purposeful thought) or the EFT, in preparation for sleep, but the idea with mindfulness is to not even think about sleeping: just drift off, naturally, during exercising those techniques. http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

Foods don't usually help you fall asleep or stay asleep. I would suggest a cup of warm milk, and when you go to bed, keep your eyes closed. Don't lay there looking a the ceiling. Close your eyes and keep them closed. Concentrate on listening. Keep your eyes closed.

If you want, you could take melitonin. Its a natural chemical found in certain foods (like milk) in low doses. At your local pharmacy, they will usually them in pill form at 5mg each. if i ever need to fall asleep, I usually take 2 or 3 and i am out like a light. Hope I helped.

Eating food actually wakes you up as it makes your body start producing energy.
However apparently milk, lettuce and unsweetened chocolate all have this enzyme in them that can help relax you.
Another thought are some herbs are naturally relaxing like mint and chamomile.
I don't know how (or why you would want to) stay asleep for ten hours. It is not a natural sleep pattern for you, you could end up feeling sluggish all day if you over sleep.
